Tantanella Member at Large DATE: January 31, 2016 Gary Peterson Council Liaison Renee Dougherty I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT Library Director II. TECHNOLOGY A. I met with City Information Services staff to finalize plans for computer technology in the new library. III. COLLECTION A.Print books were ordered weekly. Adult selections were made from October 1st, October 15th, and November 1st issues of Booklist, Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews. Fiction with January and February publication dates and updated editions of non-fiction legal and instructional titles were also ordered. were made from the June and July issues of School Library Journal and the July th 15 issues of Booklist and Kirkus Reviews. B.Weeding of adult nonfiction continued in the nonfiction 300s and was begun in adult fiction. Weeding of adult mystery hardcovers was completed. Weeding continued in juvenile picture books and paperbacks. Staff intends to weed the entire collection before starting to add RFID tags in March. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Teen Advisory Board met on 1/4. B. A Senior Surf class for older adults was held on 1/6. C. The Friends of the Library met on 1/6. D. The Library Board met on 1/6. E. F. LEGO Club was offered on 1/14. G. The adult Non Fiction Book Club met on 1/15. H. Members of the Friends hosted a Scrabble Club for adults on 1/19. I. The Adult Non-Fiction Book Club met on Came a Spider. J. BookWarms, the winter reading program for youth, continued with 97 registrants by month end. K. Winter Reads, a winter reading program for adults, began on 1/ 4. L. Youth Read Down was offered this month. A total of $95 was waived for 38 participants who spent 23.75 hours reading in the library. M. Make and Take crafting sessions were offered on four Tuesdays this month. N. Two sessions of Toddler Storytime were offered. O. Three sessions of Preschool Storytime were offered. P. Three sessions of Baby Read/Baby Grow were offered in partnership with ISD 13 Early Childhood and Family Education staff. Q. Five classes from Immaculate Conception School visited. R. Bulk loans were prepared for Immaculate Conception School and Mini Adventure Club. S. Conversation Circles, facilitated by a native English speaker, were offered for language learners throughout the month. T. One-on-one mentoring for adults learning to read was offered by Buddy Up and Read volunteers. U. Materials were selected and delivered to At-Home patrons. V. Adult volunteers donated 38 hours of service to the Library this month by leading conversations with English language learners, mentoring adults learning to read, delivering materials to at-home patrons, preparing materials for the book sale cart, facilitating book clubs, and greeting library visitors at programs. V. STAFF A. Training of two new Pages began on 1/11. B. I met with Adult Services Librarian Barb Kondrick to begin strategic planning for programs and services in 2016. C. I met with Page Rosa Boda for her six-month performance evaluation on 1/15. D. On 1/8 Bri Belanger attended a planning meeting for a grant request to the Anoka County Children and Family Council from the Columbia Heights and Anoka County Libraries and the ECFE programs in the Columbia Heights, Fridley, and Spring Lake Park school districts. E. Barb Kondrick and Bri Belanger presented information about winter reading programs for children and adults at the City Council meeting on 1/11. F. Bri atEnglish Language Family Night on 1/21. G. Summer Reading Team on 1/15 and Early Literacy Team on 1/20. H. Winnie Coyne was appointed to the Delivery Team an Anoka County Library ad hoc planning group tasked with revising delivery procedures and automated materials handling at Northtown and Rum River branches of the Library. She met with the team on 1/28. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Library Foundation met on 1/13 to finalize plans for recognizing donors to the library project. Kevin Hansen provided an update on construction progress and the next steps in creating the donor recognition wall. The Foundation will encourage donations through an in January or February. VII. GRANTS A. The Columbia Heights Library, the Anoka County Library, and the ECFE programs on the Columbia Heights, Fridley, and Spring Lake Park schools will request a renewal of the grant from the Anoka County Children and Family Council to enhance services to English Language learner and their families. VIII. MISC A. Nine boxes of library discards and unusable donations were shipped to Better World Books on 1/12. B. I met with Kevin Hansen and Amanda Henderson of HGA to review plans for the LED monument sign at the new library. C. I met with Kevin Hansen, Amanda Henderson of HGA, and construction consultant Brett Baldry on 1/19 to review the timeline for building completion and moving the collection to the new facility. D. I met with the Anoka County Library Management Team on 1/21. E. I met with the Anoka County Library Public Services Team on 1/27. F. I visited the Immaculate Conception School on 1/27. IX.
