Tantanella Member at Large FROM: Barb Kondrick, Adult Services Librarian Gary Peterson SUBJECT: Adult Services January 2016 Operational Report Council Liaison DATE: January 28, 2016 Renee Dougherty Library Director I.Adult Programs and Displays a.a MELSA-sponsored adult reading program, continues throughout January and February. Readers are encouraged to fill out a shor book that they read or listen toin any format. Reviews are placed in a notebook for ntered in a weekly prize drawing at Columbia Heights Library. The lobby book display features books recommend participants from 2015 and current Winter Reads 2016 participant b.As a tie-in to Winter Reads, local author Pat Stinson dressed up as a character from one of her novels at an author book talk, Tuesday, January 12. Friends of the Library served as greeters. Nineteen adults attended the program. c.Five adults attended Senior Surf, facilitated by the Metropolitang, on Wednesday, January 6. d.A new program, Scrabble Club, held its first game night on Tuesday, Jan. 19, which was facilitated by The Friends of the Library. Nine enthusiastic adults participated. e.The Nonfiction Book Club met Friday, Jan. 15. Recommendations by participants included: Bryan Stevenson. f.Thirteen adult volunteers donated 38 hours in December. They facilitated Conversation Circles and served as reading buddies to adult English language learners, delivered materials to at-home patrons, priced and prepared books for the sale cart, facilitated the non-fiction book club, served as greeters for library programs and completed various tasks in the library. II.Meetings, etc. a.The Friends met Wednesday, January 6. b.The Library Board met Wednesday, January 6. c.Renee, Bri and Barb participated in a half-day library goal-setting retreat on January 7. III.Projects a.Barb compiled and submitted library copy for the spring issue of Heights Happenings. b.Supplies, DVDs and adult audiobooks on cd were ordered. c.Weeding continues in Fiction and Westerns. Staff will begin interfiling pap hard cover fiction in all genres except romances. d.Books and other materials were delivered to at-home patrons. e.Program planning was finalized for spring 2016. f.Press releases were sent out.
