Bulk loans of materials were prepared for ICS (1 bin for each of 6 classes) and Adventure Club.
b. Classes from ICS visited on 4/7, 4/8, 4/10, 4/13, 4/27, and 4/30.
c. Teen Advisory Board (TAB) met on 4/6. We discussed program ideas for summer and talked
about volunteer opportunities for teens in the library.
d. LEGO Club took place on 4/9. It was led by a teen volunteer and had 5 people in attendance.
After LEGO Club, we put one of each participant's creations in a display case in the children's
department. This spurred a lot of discussion and excitement throughout the month.
e. READ Dogs took place on 4/11. We typically hold this program on Monday evenings but decided
to try a Saturday morning. We had two dogs, including a newly certified READ Dogs team, and
14 people in attendance.
f. Family Art Day took place on 4/18. This class, taught by staff from Rum River Art Center,
showed families how to work together to create a mosaic. There were 20 people, from kids to
parents to grandparents, in attendance. A few people asked, "When is the next Family Art
Day ?"
g. On 4/22, families from the Early Childhood Family Education center took afield trip to the
library. I did a storytime for 26 children and parents. A power outage prevented us from doing
our scheduled tour of the library and signing up for library cards. All families received
information about the library and a book about taking care of library materials.
h. On 4/30, 25 children, parents, and caregivers gathered for a Block Party. Children ages 2
through 5 developed math, science, motor, and social skills by playing with various types of
blocks. Parents and caregivers received a handout with tips for playing with children and the
importance of play in early literacy. It was a lot of fun and several people asked me when the
next block party would be.
