I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Orkin inspected the building on 4/2 and applied preventative pest control measures as needed.
B. Fidelity Building Services buffed the Activity and Break Room floors on 4/17.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. Information Services staff continue to troubleshoot printing problems with public computer #8.
III. COLLECTION
A. Print books were ordered weekly. Adult selections were made from the January and February
2015 issues of Kirkus Reviews and the February 1, 2015, issues of Booklist and Library Journal.
Adult fiction with May publication dates and popular paperbacks were ordered. Children's
selections were made from the November 15, 2014, issues of Booklist and Kirkus Reviews and the
December issue of School Library Journal. Adult DVDs, music, and audiobooks were ordered.
B. Reports of items with multiple holds were reviewed weekly and additional copies purchased as
needed.
C. Weeding of non - circulating adult fiction S -Z was completed. Weekly reports of Columbia
Heights orphan copies were reviewed and items were weeded based on condition and estimated
future use. Weeding in children's fiction J was finished. Weeding of adult DVDs was completed.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. The Friends of the Library met on 4/1 for their annual spring lunch meeting at the Dragon House. The
Friends assisted the Lighthouse of Columbia Heights with a Pancake Breakfast on 4/17 and received
proceeds from the event.
B. A Senior Surf computer class was offered on 4/1.
C. A Castles in the Sky children's program was offered on 4/1.
D. The Library Board met on 4/1.
E. The Teen Advisory Board met on 4/6.
F. A LEGO Club for kids was held on 4/9.
G. R.E.A.D. Dogs was offered on 4/11.
H. National Library Week (4/12 -4/18) was celebrated.
I. The Adult Non- Fiction Book Club met on 4/17.
J. A Family Art Day was held on 4/18.
K. An Early Childhood Family Education class visited the library on 4/22.
L. A History of Columbia Heights and Hilltop program was presented by Sara Given from the Anoka County
Historical Society on 4/25.
M. The Adult Book Club met on 4/29 to discuss James McBride's The Good Lord Bird.
N. A Block Party for young children and their caregivers was offered on 4/30.
O. Conversation Circles for English language learners were offered.
P. One -on -one mentoring for adults learning to read in the Buddy Up and Read program was offered.
Q. Four sessions of Toddler Storytime were offered.

R. Four sessions of Preschool Storytime were offered.
S. Four sessions of Baby Read, Baby Grow were taught in partnership with Early Childhood Family
Education staff from ISD 13.
T. Bulk loans were prepared for Immaculate Conception School and Mini Adventure Club.
U. Seven classes from Immaculate Conception School visited.
V. Federal and state tax forms were displayed through the month.
W. Materials were selected and delivered to At -Home patrons.
X. Adult volunteers served the Library this month by delivering materials to at -home patrons, assisting adults
learning to read and speak English, instructing patrons using computers and helping with various
programs.
V. STAFF
A. On 4/7 Bethany Grabow attended the MOO! Trunk Show with author David LaRochelle and illustrator
Mike Wohnoutka which is the feature title for the 2015 Once Upon a Reader initiative.
B. Bethany represented the library at Book -a- palooza at Columbia Academy on 4/9.
C. Barb Kondrick, Bethany and I met with Community Development staff for an orientation to the City re-
branding process on 4/10.
D. Bethany and Barb prepared copy for the summer issue of the city newsletter, Heights Happenings.
E. A part-time Library Supervisor position was posted on 4/7 and applications were received through 4/30.
F. Bethany attended the Summer Reading planning meeting with Anoka County Library staff on 4/17.
G. Bethany presented storytime at the Family Center on 4/17 for English Language Family Night.
H. Renee Rewitzer was trained in use of Photoshop photo and image editing software on 4/22.
I. Bethany attended the `Unconference' of the Children's and Young Peoples section of the Minnesota
Library Association on 4/24.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Library Foundation met on 4/15. The Foundation began discussion of donor recognition fundraising
for the new library. They also began preliminary planning for a possible wine - tasting fundraiser in June.
VII. MISC
A. I met with city staff and staff of HGA Architecture and Engineering on 4/15, 4/21, 4/28, and 4/29 to
discuss landscaping, site design, AV and telecom infrastructure, and interior finishes for the new library.
B. Library staff conducted a tornado drill on the afternoon of 4/16. Staff helped eighteen people move to safe
shelter in the lower level in less than two minutes.
C. The Library was without electricity from approximately 12:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. on 4/22 along with
approximately 22,000 households in Columbia Heights, St. Anthony, and New Brighton. Bethany and
ECFE did an outstanding job of calming ECFE students and continuing with their field trip during the
blackout.
D. I attended the Anoka County Public Services meeting on 4/22.
E. I met with the Library Design Task Force on 4/29.
F. I met with representatives from CenturyLink Cable on 4/30.
G. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on 4/30.
