PROGRAMS
a. Bulk loans of materials were prepared for ICS (1 bin for each of 6 classes) and Mini Adventure Club.
b. Classes from ICS visited on 3/16, 3/17, 3/18, and 3/19.
c. Teen Advisory Board (TAB) met on 3/2. Ten people attended the meeting. We shared book
recommendations, discussed program ideas for summer, and talked about volunteer opportunities
for teens in the library.
d. LEGO Club was popular as always. It's fun to see kids who don't know each other bond over their
love of building. LEGO Club is also a good opportunity to practice sharing and cooperation. I have
trained a teen volunteer to lead the club; she has done a great job greeting families and helping to
clean up afterward. Teens in the Teen Advisory Board have expressed interest in helping with
children's programming, so this is a way to experiment with that idea as well as to foster ownership
in the library by being involved rather than just being a visitor.
e. A new offering, Beginning Reader Storytime, took place this month. This was a 4 -week storytime
session held after school on Tuesdays. It was geared toward children ages 4 through 2nd grade who
are learning to read on their own. We read stories, did activities, and played games that explored
the Every Child Ready to Read principles of sing, talk, read, write, and play. This storytime was
developed to address the many questions we get from parents whose children are learning to read
and /or struggling with reading. It was an interesting and educational experience both for me and
the families who attended.
