Adult Programs and Displays a. March displays included: "Unlimited Possibilities," "Women's History Month: Read About Strong Women," "A War to End All Wars: 1914 - 1918," and a display of antiques and collectibles in the glass display case — courtesy of Friends of the Library —to promote the upcoming Antique & Collectible Appraisals program, which will be held Saturday, May 2. b. Four adults attended Senior Surf, a hands -on computer training class designed for people 55 +, on Wednesday, March 4th. c. Meet the Birdchick!, Wednesday, March 11, featuring Sharon Stiteler, author of "1001 Secrets Every Birder Should Know ", was a great success. Guests heard about Stiteler's work to rescue Great Blue Herons from the Mississippi River rookery after the 2012 tornado which devastated North Minneapolis. Her humorous account of a brutal, "Death March" climb up the treacherous Volcan San Pedro in Guatemala in pursuit of the rare and endangered Horned Guan, and her description of digiscoping in the Viera Wetlands in Florida, made birding fans of everyone in the audience. The Loft Writing Class, Family Stories into Memoir: Write Your Life! was attended by fourteen adults on Wednesday, March 18. Comments were enthusiastic and participants' evaluations included requests to offer additional writing classes and to start a library- sponsored writers group. e. The Nonfiction Book Club met Friday, March 20. Eight adults attended. Favorite titles included "Spare Parts: Four Undocumented Teenagers, One Ugly Robot and the Battle for the American Dream," by Joshua Davis; "The Price of Inequality," by Joseph Stiglitz; "Dancing Fish and Ammonites: a Memoir," by Penelope Lively; "A Matter of Degrees," by Gino Segre; and "Her Honor: Rosalie Wahl and the Minnesota Women's Movement," by Lori Sturdevant. f. The Library Book Club met Wednesday, March 25 to discuss "The Art of Fielding" by Chad Harbach. Seventeen adults attended. g. Fifteen adult volunteers worked 63 hours in March. Tasks included delivering materials to at -home patrons, facilitating Conversation Circles, serving as Reading Buddies for adults learning English, serving as computer tutors and completing various tasks in the library. h. Eight At -home patrons received a total of 128 items, delivered by volunteers and staff. II. Meetings a. The Library Foundation met Wednesday, March 4. b. The Library Board met Wednesday, March. 4. c. The Friends of the Library met Wednesday, March. 4. d. A community open house to discuss the new library was held at the Public Safety Building on Thursday, March 26. III. Projects a. Weeding continued for music CDs and children's and adult DVDs. b. Orders were placed for library supplies, DVDs and adult audiobooks. c. Summer program planning was underway.
