BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. Orkin staff inspected the library and applied preventative treatment for rodent and insect pests on 2/5. B. Fidelity Building Services buffed the Activity Room and Break Room floors on 2/20. II. TECHNOLOGY III. COLLECTION A.Books were ordered weekly. Adult selections were made from the November and December 2014 issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, and Library Journal. Adult paperbacks and hardcover fiction with March publication dates were also ordered. Children’s selections were made from the October 2014 issues of School Library Journal, Booklist and Kirkus Reviews. Adult DVDs and adult audiobooks were ordered. B.Reports of items with multiple holds were reviewed weekly and additional copies purchased as needed. C.Weeding of non-circulating adult fiction C-K was completed. Weekly reports of Columbia Heights “orphan” copies were reviewed and items were weeded based on condition and estimated future use. Weeding of adult and children’s DVDs continued. IV. PROGRAMS A. The Teen Advisory Board met on 2/1. B. A Senior Surf computer class was offered on 2/4. C. The Library Board met on 2/4 with all members in attendance. D. The Friends of the Library met on 2/4. E. Family storytime featuring the stories of Mo Willems was held on the evening of 2/10. F. A program on America in World War I featuring local author John Cox was held on 2/11. G. A LEGO Club for kids was held on 2/12. H. An Anti-Valentine’s Day Party for teens was held on 2/13. I. The Adult Non-Fiction Book Club met on 2/20. J. The Adult Book Club met on 2/25 for discussion of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. K. Honoring Choices, a program on end-of-life planning for adults, was held on 2/25. L. Book Warms, the winter reading program for children ended on 2/27; 169 children participated. M. Winter Jackets, a reading program for adults, ended on 2/28; 174 entries were received. N. Conversation Circles for English language learners were offered. O. One-on-one mentoring for adults learning to read in the Buddy Up and Read program was offered. P. Four sessions of the drop-in Make & Take Craft program were offered. Q. Three sessions of toddler storytime were offered. R. Four sessions of preschool storytime were offered. S. Four sessions of “Baby Read, Baby Grow” were offered in partnership with Early Childhood Family Education staff from ISD 13. Bulk loans were prepared for Immaculate Conception School and Adventure Club. U. Twelve classes from Immaculate Conception School visited. V. Federal and state tax forms and instructions were displayed. Customers continue to be frustrated with the IRS decision to discontinue printing of the tax instruction booklets, and requiring use of the IRS website for instructions and tax tables. . W. Materials were selected and delivered to At Home Service patrons. X. Adult volunteers donated service to the Library this month by assisting adults learning to read and speak English, pulling materials for weeding review, and assisting people using computers at the library. V.STAFF A. Clerk Typist II Renee Rewitzer was trained to archive documents in Laserfiche on 2/5. B. Children’s Librarian Bethany Grabow helped to plan a conference for the Children and Young People’s division of the Minnesota Library Association on 2/12. C. Bethany participated in the Early Literacy Team of the Anoka County Library on 2/17. D. Adult Services Librarian Barb Kondrick provided chat reference through AskMN, the 24/7 online information and reference service, on 2/19. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Library Foundation did not meet this month. VII. MISC A. The first MELSA Survey week for 2015 occurred from February 1-7. Library staff answered 237 reference questions. 212 of the patrons assisted were from Anoka county, 19 from Hennepin county, and 6 from Ramsey county. B. I interviewed eight candidates for the Library Page position. Four conditional offers of employment were extended to the highest scoring applicants. Three candidates accepted the offers and will begin training on March 2. C. I met with Project Designers Paul Neuhaus and Jane Dedering from HGA on 2/4; Paul and Jane met with library staff on 2/25 to refine staff needs and to continue interior space planning for the new library. D. I attended meetings with HGA and city staff on 2/4; 2/18, and 2/25. E. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on 2/5 and 2/19. F. I attended the kick-off meeting of the Library Design Task Force on 2/18. G. I submitted the 2014 Library Annual Report to the City. VIII.
