I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Horwitz NS/I conducted a routine inspection and replaced filters on the HVAC system on
12/18.
B. Orkin conducted an inspection and applied pest treatment on 12/4.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. Anoka County Library upgraded the Enterprise library catalog on the morning of 12/31;
the web-based catalog was unavailable for use during the upgrade.
III. COLLECTION
A. Books were ordered weekly. Adult selections were made from the September issue of
Booklist and the October issues of Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, and Library Journal. Popular
paperbacks and urban fiction were ordered. Juvenile selections were made from the July
issue of Booklist and the August issues of Kirkus. Popular children’s titles were added.
Adult and children’s music, audiobooks and DVDs were added.
B. Reports of items with multiple holds were reviewed weekly and additional copies
purchased as needed.
C. Weeding was completed in adult non-fiction 971-999 and continued in juvenile fiction.
Weekly reports of COH “orphan” copies were reviewed and weeded based on condition
and estimated future use.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. The Friends of the Library met on 12/1.
B. The Teen Advisory Board met on 12/1.
C. A Senior Surf computer class was offered on 12/3.
D. The Library Board met on 12/3.
E. The Homework Zone was open on two Wednesdays.
F. Volunteers facilitated Conversation Circles for English language learners and provided
one-on-one mentoring for adults learning to read in the Buddy Up and Read program.
G. A Family Storytime was held on 12/9.
H. A LEGO Club for kids was held on 12/11.
I. A Holiday Gift-Making program for teens was held on 12/13.
J. 133 books were donated to Project Bookshelf; members of the Friends delivered the books
to Southern Anoka Community Action on 12/15.
K. The Adult Book Club met on 12/17 for a holiday celebration.
L. The Adult Non-Fiction Book Club met on 12/19.
M. Book Warms, the winter reading program for children, began on 12/29.
N. A Make & Take Craft program was offered on 12/30.
O. A Noon Year’s Eve Celebration for families was held on 12/31.
P. Six bulk loans were prepared for Immaculate Conception School classes.
Q. Six classes from Immaculate Conception School visited.
R. Materials were selected and delivered to At Home Service patrons.
S. Adult volunteers donated 60 hours of service.
V. STAFF
A. Library staff attended the City Holiday Party on 12/9.
B. Children’s Librarian Bethany Grabow attended the Anoka County Library Early Literacy
Team meeting on 12/16.
C. Bethany attended a “StorytimePalooza” training event sponsored by MELSA on 12/17.
D. Bethany participated in planning a conference for the Children’s and Young Peoples
section of the Minnesota Library Association.
E. Page Dan Kleinfehn asked to be removed from the regular schedule but will continue to
substitute as needed.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Library Foundation met on 12/3 to finalize planning for the December movie
fundraiser. Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Man Who Knew Too Much” was screened at the
Heights Theatre on 12/14.
VII. MISC
A. Kelli Bourgeois and I reviewed applications for the open Library Clerk position. Thirteen
candidates were interviewed on 12/10 and 12/12. Second interviews with two finalists
were held on 12/18. A conditional offer of employment was extended to Winnie Coyne.
B. I met with other city staff to plan for the new library on 12/2.
C. I met with Anoka County Library Director Marlene Moulton Janssen on 12/3 to review
changes to the MELSA policy on Associate Libraries.
D. I met with Kevin Hansen regarding the architectural services RFP (Request for Proposal)
on 12/9.
E. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on 12/11.
F. I met with the public services team of the Anoka County Library on 12/17.
G. With assistance from members of the Friends, the Library hosted a two-day booksale on
12/18 and 12/19.
H. I met with Mia Blanchett and Paul Neuhaus of HGA Architects on 12/26.
I. I reviewed applications for the Library Design Task Force and shared recommendations
with the mayor.
