I.Adult Programs and Displays
a.The big bulletin board by the service desk on main floor had a “Thank you for voting
YES!” display.
b. A display of Young Adult books, that may be of interest to adult readers, was created by
Bethany Grabow, the children’s and teens’ librarian.
c.Five adults attended “Senior Surf”, a hands-on computer training class on Wednesday,
Nov. 5.
d.Ten adults attended Beginners Painting, an art studio class for adults.
e.The Nonfiction Book Club was held on Friday, Nov. 21. Eight adults attended. Favorite
titles included “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand, “Working stiff: two years, 262 bodies,
and the making of a medical examiner” by Judy Melinek, and “The price of inequality”
by Joseph E. Stiglitz.
f.The Library Book Club met on Wednesday, Nov. 26, to discuss “Still Life” by Louise
Penny. Sixteen adults attended.
g.Six adult learners worked on their English reading and speaking skills with three adult
volunteers.
h.At-home patrons received a total of 98 items, delivered by volunteers and staff.
II.Meetings
a.The Library Board met on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
b.The Friends of the Library met on Monday, Nov. 3.
c.Barb attended the MELSA Adult Programming interest group meeting on Wednesday,
Nov. 12.
III.Projects
a.Barb covered two online reference (chat line) shifts for AskMN.
b.Weeding continued for music CDs and children’s and adult DVDs.
c.Orders were placed for library supplies and children’s and adults’ DVDs.
IV.Volunteers
a.Eight adult volunteers completed 47 hours of volunteer time—delivering books to at-
home patrons, pricing books and refilling the book sale cart, serving as book club
facilitators, serving as reading buddies for adults working on their English language
reading and speaking skills, assisting with children’s programs and completing various
tasks at the library.
b.“Buddy Up and Read” volunteer Susan Jane Polley completed 12 hours of training as an
English Language Tutor, taught by the Minnesota Literacy Council.
