I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. The exterior windows were washed on 8/8.
B. All window blinds were removed, cleaned offsite, and re-hung on 8/13.
C. Dalco Roofing and Sheet Metal removed algae blooms on the roof and made minor repairs
to edges and parapet caulking on 8/14.
D. Fidelity Building Services buffed the floors in the activity and staff rooms on 8/15.
E. The roof of the East Room leaked during rainfalls on 8/20 and 8/21. A ceiling tile
collapsed and water poured onto the desks and carpet.
II. TECHNOLOGY
A. On 8/27 the city experienced a loss of internet service from 1:00 -6:30 p.m. Consequently
public internet computers and the integrated library system which handles patron accounts
and the lending of materials were unavailable. Library staff worked hard to discharge and
reshelf most of the materials returned on this day during the final 1.5 hours of operation.
B. The Library continued to operate with only seven of eight public internet computers due to
ongoing problems with the hard-drive and power supply in one of the machines.
III. COLLECTION

A. Books were ordered weekly. Adult selections were made from the May 1 issue of Kirkus

Reviews and the May 15 issues of Booklist and Library Journal. Adult hard cover fiction
with September publication dates, popular paperbacks, and books requested by patrons
were also purchased.
B. Reports of items with multiple holds were reviewed weekly and additional copies
purchased as needed.
C. Weeding was completed in adult mystery paperbacks I through Z and adult Non-Fiction
930-944. Weekly reports of COH “orphan” copies in the catalog were reviewed and
weeded based on condition and estimation of probable future use.
IV. PROGRAMS
A. A Steampunk Mystery Mayhem program was presented by Minnesota Historical Society
staff on 8/2.
B. The Teen Advisory Board met on 8/4.
C. The Library Board met on 8/6 with all members in attendance.
D. Four “Make and Take” craft programs for children were held.
E. A Midsummer Magic program was presented by ArtStart on 8/9.
F. Teen volunteers were feted with ice cream and presented to the City Council for
recognition on 8/11.
G. Schiffelly Puppets presented a program based on the classic fairy tale Rapunzel on 8/12.
H. A Lego Club was held on 8/14.
I. The new teachers in ISD 13 visited the library on 8/20 to meet the children’s librarian and
learn about library resources for students.
J. The adult Non-Fiction Book Club met on 8/15.
K. The adult Fiction Book Club met on 8/27 to discuss The Professionals by Owen
Laukkanen.
L. Bulk loans were prepared for Adventure Club and Mini Adventure Club classrooms.
M. Materials were selected and delivered to At Home Service patrons.
N. Adult volunteers donated 16 hours of service.
V. STAFF
A. Adult Services Librarian Barb Kondrick and I met for her 12-month performance
evaluation.
B. Bethany Grabow met with the Anoka County Library Youth Services Task Force on 8/21.
C. Barb met with the Anoka County Library Senior Programming Interest Group on 8/27.
D. On 8/19 I met with all part-time pages to establish the work schedule for the fall and
winter. We also discussed prioritization of tasks during work shifts.
E. I appointed Clerk-Typist Stacey Hendren as Columbia Heights Library’s representative to
the Anoka County Library Task Force to establish best practices and procedures for the
new delivery process. The group met on 8/14 and 8/26. New delivery procedures will be
implemented in September.
F. Stacey met with the city Safety Committee on 8/13.
G. Barb met with the Sister Cities group to promote a Polish music program which the
Library will host during Polish-American Awareness month in October.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Library Foundation met on 8/6 to make final plans for the Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser
on 9/10 and to discuss a public information campaign for the ballot question on a new
library.
VII. MISC
A. I met with the City Manager for my 12-month performance evaluation.
B. I met with the management team of the Anoka County Library on 8/7 and for an
“intentional business model” retreat on the afternoon of 8/21.
C. I met with the Anoka County Library public services team on 8/28.
