SUBJECT: Adult Services - July 2014 Operational Report

I.Adult Programs and Displays
a.July bulletin board and book display themes included “Spice Up Your Summer Reading,”
“Master the Art of Reading,” “Favorite Non-fiction Books,” “Show Us Your Library Card,”
and “Discover Minnesota.” Display areas were created for new large print books and
new audio books on cd.
b.The Nonfiction Bookclub was held on Friday, July 18. Six adults attended.
c.The Library Bookclub met on Wednesday, July 30, to discuss “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of
Harold Fry” by Rachel Joyce. Sixteen adults attended.
d.Brain Fitness games continue to be popular.
e.Barb selected materials for seven at-home patrons, for a total of 56 items.
II.Meetings
a.The Foundation met on Wednesday, July 2.
b.The Library Board met on Wednesday, July 2.
c.Barb attended the MELSA Senior Programming Interest Group meeting on Wednesday,
July 30.
III.Projects
a.Copy was finalized for Heights Happenings fall programs and events.
b.The Friends assisted with Wacky Wednesday programs in the children’s department.
c.The Community Picnic was held on the evening of July 17 at Sullivan Park. Library
activities included “Show Me Your Library Card” photos, a “Wheel of Fortune” game
with small prizes for participants, YES button and fans. Librarians assisted with
activities, welcomed visitors and provided information about library services and the
new library proposal.
d.“Show Me Your Library Card” photos were posted on the bulletin board and a slide
show was posted on the library’s Facebook page and Cable channel 19.
e.Weeding was completed for adult audiobooks. Weeding is in progress for music CDs
and DVDs.
IV.Volunteers
a.Eight adult volunteers completed 33 1/2 hours of volunteer time—delivering books to
at-home patrons, pricing books and refilling the book sale cart, serving as “Conversation
Circle” facilitators, book club facilitators, program assistants and completing various
tasks at the library.
