HomeMy WebLinkAboutOperational Report for Bethany To: Renee Dougherty, Library Director From: Bethany Grabow, Children’s Librarian Subject: June Operational Report Date: June 30, 2014 I.PROGRAMS a.Bulk loans of materials were prepared for Adventure Club and Mini Adventures classrooms. b.The third Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meeting was on 6/2. Four people attended the meeting. We brainstormed and voted on fall program ideas. The teens also came up with an idea to decorate their bulletin board. Several more teens have signed up since the meeting! c.The first program of the summer was The Great Outdoors on 6/12. It was a cool and windy day, but we had 30 people in attendance. The bubbles and streamers were especially popular. d.Summer storytime began on 6/16. On 6/17, we had a special construction-themed storytime, then walked to Huset Park to check out some big vehicles. Public Works staff did a wonderful job helping the kids climb in and “drive” the vehicles. e.Wacky Wednesdays kicked off with Dazzling Dave on 6/18. There were 93 people in the toasty Activity Room to learn about yo-you tricks. f.Abrakadoodle held a two-day Star Wars program for school-age kids on 6/19 and 6/20. Attendees made art projects, including a light saber. One boy came dressed for part in a storm trooper mask. g.Teens got crafty at Crafternoon programs on 6/17 and 6/24. Participants made duct tape creations and glove monsters. A mother, two teens, and a father made a whole family of awesomely creative glove monsters. h.Fans of the popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series came to the library on 6/23. They participated in games such as Pin the Booger on Greg, a Rowley bean bag toss, a toilet paper mummy wrap, Wimpy Bingo, a trivia contest, and group comic drawing. i.Royalty visited the library on 6/24. Participants in the Columbia Heights Royalty Program attended storytime in fancy dresses to listen to fairy tales and sing songs about dragons and princesses. After storytime, participants could pose for a photo with the Miss Columbia Heights hopefuls. j.Magic was in the air on 6/25. Magical Mia told the group of 84 about her childhood in a Korean orphanage, then performed fantastic magic tricks, complete with help from the audience. k.READ Dogs began 6/16. Dianna and Haylee were here 6/16, 6/23, and 6/30. Leny and Packer were here on 6/16. Orders were also placed in the following areas: replacements and adds. b.Weeding of QJ collection continued this month. We are incorporating QJ books into the J nonfiction shelves as I weed. III.PROJECTS a.Prepared agenda and activities for TAB meeting. b.Planned Make & Take Crafts for the summer. c.Purchased teen summer reading prizes. d.Prepared VolunTeen training guide. e.Chose Legacy programs for fall. f.Prepared final things for summer reading program. g.Developed goals for my 1 year review. h.Planned storytimes for summer. i.Planned fall programs and wrote text for Heights Happenings. IV.GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY th a.6/3: Visited 6 grade reading classes at Columbia Academy to talk about summer reading. rdth b.6/4: Visited 3 and 4 grade classes at North Park Elementary to talk about summer reading. c.6/5: Visited grades K-5 at Highland Elementary to talk about summer reading. d.6/9: Presented summer reading information at the City Council meeting. e.6/23: Attended City Council meeting. f.6/27: Handed out new library pins and staffed library table at Jamboree parade. V.STAFF a.This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: summer reading sign-up and materials maintenance, selection tools, and weeding. b.Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also assisted with summer reading prep. She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and purchase requests. c.Michelle Wermerskirchen sent a press release for July programs, put up two new displays, prepared materials for weekly Make & Take Crafts, and helped with prep for summer reading.
