HomeMy WebLinkAboutOperational Report for Barb TO: Renee Dougherty, Library Director FROM: Barb Kondrick, Adult Services Librarian SUBJECT: Adult Services - June 2014 Operational Report DATE: July 1, 2014 I.Adult Programs and Displays a.Senior Surf was held Wednesday, June 4. Five seniors registered plus additional patrons were on a waiting list. b.June bulletin board and book display themes included “Spice Up Your Summer Reading,” “Master the Art of Reading” and “Nonfiction Favorites.” c.The Nonfiction Bookclub was held on Friday, June 20. Six adults attended. d.The Library Bookclub met on Wednesday, June 25, to discuss “Eleanor and Park” by Rainbow Rowell. Fourteen adults attended. e.Brain Fitness games continue to be popular in the library. f.Barb selected materials for four at-home patrons, for a total of 18 items. Three new at-home reader applications forms were submitted. II.Meetings a.The Friends of the Columbia Heights Library met Monday, June 2 b.The Foundation met on Wednesday, June 4 and Friday, June 20. c.The Library Board met on Wednesday, June 4. d.Barb attended City Council Meetings on Monday June 9 and 23. III.Projects a.The Friends held a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Lighthouse on Friday, June 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. b.Outdoor library activities before and during the Jamboree Parade on Friday, June 27 included a photo booth encouraging people to “Show me your library card,” a “Wheel of Fortune” type game with small prizes for participants who correctly answer a trivia question about the library, and giveaway buttons promoting support for a new library. Librarians, Library Board, Friends, volunteers and Foundation members assisted with activities, welcomed visitors and provided information about the new library proposal. c.Materials ordered included office supplies, AV security strips, cases for AV media, craft supplies, YES buttons and a table covering for community outreach events. d.Weeding continued for adult audiobooks and music CDs. e.Fall programming information was submitted for Heights Happenings. f.Buddy Up and Read partners were interviewed for a “Meet Your Neighbors,” article. IV.Volunteers a.Twenty-two adult volunteers completed 71 hours of volunteer time—delivering books to at-home patrons, refilling the book sale cart; serving as “Reading Buddies,” book club facilitators and program assistants; completing various tasks at the library, hosting library activities during the Jamboree Parade and helping out at the pancake breakfast fundraiser.
