I.PROGRAMS
th
a.Bulk loans of materials were prepared for ICS for Prek, Kindergarten, 1, 2, and 5 grade classrooms.
b.Classes from ICS visited on 5/1, 5/19, 5/21, and 5/22.
c.The second Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meeting was on 5/5. Two people attended the meeting. We
brainstormed and voted on fall program ideas. Several more teens have signed up since the
meeting!
d.The second session of LEGO Club met on 5/8. Children in grades K-8 built their creations. 23 people
attended. It was a full house!
e.Teens had fun at Cupcake Wars on 5/10. 15 people attended. Their challenge was to choose four
ingredients and decorate a cupcake to represent a book. One volunteer and two pages were the
judges and chose winners for Most Daring and Best in Show. Teens also voted on their peers’
cupcakes. It was a fantastic program!

II.COLLECTION
a.Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: Kirkus 2/1, 1/1 and Booklist 2/1/14.
Orders were also placed in the following areas: replacements and adds.
b.Weeding of QJ collection continued this month. We are incorporating QJ books into the J nonfiction
shelves as I weed.
III.PROJECTS
a.Finalized programs for summer.
b.Purchased supplies for summer reading program.
c.Finished review forms and event calendars for summer and sent to printer.
d.Prepared agenda and activities for TAB meeting.
e.Accepted applications for teen summer volunteers, developed schedule, and sent out background
check forms to all applicants.
f.Contacted schools to schedule visits to talk about summer reading.
IV.GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY
a.5/1: Represented the library at the ECFE end-of-the-year picnic and handed out information to
families. There were 194 people at the event.
b.5/15: Attended staff day at Bunker Hills Activity Center
c.5/17: Attended Teen Literature Conference in Mendota Heights. Met four authors and attended
a session on booktalks for teens.
d.5/19: Visited grades K, 1, and 2 at North Park Elementary to talk about summer reading.

e.5/20: Visited 6 grade reading classes at Columbia Academy to talk about summer reading.
f.5/20: Attended Page meeting to go over summer reading and youth read down.

5/28: Visited 5 grade students at North Park Elementary to talk about summer reading.

5/29: Visited 6 grade reading classes at Columbia Academy to talk about summer reading.

5/29: Visited grades K-8 at Immaculate Conception to talk about summer reading.

V.STAFF
a.This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: prep for summer reading,
selection tools, and weeding.
b.Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also assisted with summer reading prep. She completed
her usual tasks including month end reports, magazines, counting money, receiving books, and
purchase requests.
c.Michelle Wermerskirchen sent a press release for summer programs, put up two new displays, and
helped with prep for summer reading.
