I.PROGRAMS
th
a.Bulk loans of materials were prepared for ICS for Prek, Kindergarten, 1, 2, and 5 grade classrooms,
Adventure Club and Mini Adventures, and ECFE.
b.Classes from ICS visited on 3/24, 3/26, and 3/27.
c.We had a family storytime in the evening on 3/11. The theme was hair. We read a parody of
Rapunzel that got laughs from both the kids and the adults present.
d.Storyteller Nothando Zulu told tales of trickery and wit on 3/1.
e.We had programs every day during ISD 13 spring break week 3/17-3/21. On 3/17 and 3/18,
students from the Columbia Heights High School drama team read stories and performed puppets
shows for storytime attendees. They did a fantastic job. Wednesday 3/19 was LEGO Day at the
library; 27 people made creations from LEGO bricks. Each participant chose his/her favorite
creation for display in the case in the Children’s Department. Thursday 3/20 and Friday 3/21 were
gaming days for teens. We had a Wii, board games, and duct tape crafts. The duct tapes crafts were
very popular. Participants made everything from cell phone cases to picture frames to mini skirts.
f.Terry from Children and Teen Checkups handed out information about nutrition to kids, parents,
and teens after storytime on 3/18.
g.Art Start presented a Rube Goldberg Marble Machine program on 3/22. Kids in grades 3 through 6
made their own marble machines from a variety of materials and were able to take their creations
home at the end of the program.
h.Mayor Gary Peterson was our special guest at storytime on 3/25. He read stories, sang songs, and
helped with a flannel board about farm animals.
i.READ Dogs started on 3/31.

II.COLLECTION
a.Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: Kirkus 12/1/13, Booklist 12/15/13, and
School Library Journal 2/14. Orders were also placed in the following areas: replacements and
adds.
b.Weeding of j nonfiction in the 500s was started this month.
III.PROJECTS
a.Prepared programs for spring break week.
b.Booked programs for summer reading program.
c.Sent advertising to schools, iLander for Teen Advisory Board.
d.Planned READ Dogs.
e.Prepared activities for Read Across America Day to be celebrated the first week in March.
f.Prepared text for summer edition of Heights Happenings.
IV.GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY
a.3/6: Attended Community Baby Shower at ECFE.
b.3/12: Attended ICMA informational meeting at City Hall
c.3/18: Met with Early Literacy Team about early literacy goals in Anoka County Libraries.
V.STAFF
a.This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: setting up Activity Room for
library programs, selection tools, and weeding.
b.Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also assisted in the many bulk loan bins we had this month.
She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, magazines, counting money, receiving
books, and purchase requests.
c.Michelle Wermerskirchen did final reporting statistics for Book Warms, put up two new displays,
and sent out press releases for March programs.
