I.PROGRAMS
th
a.Bulk loans of materials were prepared for ICS for Prek, Kindergarten, 1, 2, and 5 grade classrooms,
Adventure Club and Mini Adventures, and ECFE.
b.Classes from ICS visited on 1/13, 1/15/, and 1/16.
c.Dr. Bergstrom from Fairview Clinic came to storytime on 1/14 and read books about Curious
George. At the end of storytime, we had a special visit from Curious George himself! Dr. Bergstrom
demonstrated what happens during a checkup and kids had a chance to check George’s throat
themselves. Afterward, families had their pictures taken with Curious George and received a free
book.
d.We had a special family storytime in the evening on 1/14. The theme was music. We had three new
families attend.

II.COLLECTION
a.Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: Kirkus Fall Preview and 10/1, Booklist
9/15, 10/1, 10/15, and School Library Journal 10/13. Orders were also placed in the following
areas: replacements and adds.
b.Weeding of YA and J paperback fiction was completed this month.
III.PROJECTS
a.Maintained materials for Book Warms winter reading program including printing additional reading
logs, preparing make & take craft materials each week, and setting up a new Book Battle YA voting
display each week.
b.Prepared props for Candyland Live program on 2/7.
c.Booked performers for Wacky Wednesdays during the summer reading program.
d.Planned programs for March, April, and May and submitted for Heights Happenings.
e.Emailed READ Dogs teams for March/April session.
IV.GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY
a.1/21: Met with Early Literacy Team to discuss goals and actions for early literacy at ACL libraries
in 2014.
b.1/24: Met with other ACL youth staff to plan for summer reading program.
c.1/8: Attended Library Board meeting. Introduced to board members and presented results of
Youth Read Down.
V.STAFF
a.This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: signing up youth for Book
Warms and Youth Read Down, shifting quartos to shelves along wall, selection tools, and weeding.
b.Kelly Olson worked on book orders. She also assisted in the many bulk loan bins we had this month.
She completed her usual tasks including month end reports, magazines, counting money, receiving
books, and purchase requests.
c.Michelle Wermerskirchen worked on keeping and reporting statistics for Book Warms, putting up
three new displays, and helping with props for Candyland Live program.
