HomeMy WebLinkAboutOperational Report for Barb TO: Renee Dougherty, Library Director FROM: Barb Kondrick SUBJECT: Adult Services November Operational Report DATE: December 31, 2013 I.Programs a.The Library Book Club, facilitated by Renee Dougherty, met Wednesday, Dec. 18, for a book exchange. Thirteen adults participated. b.The Nonfiction Book Club, facilitated by Catherine Vesley and Barb Kondrick, met Friday, Dec. 20 and discussed books that participants had read during the past month. Eight adults participated. II.Meetings a.The Friends of the Library met Monday, December 2 at 1:00 p.m. The treasurer reported a balance of $1355.85. The Friends voted to purchase six wooden, movable bookshelves for use in the New Books displays. The bookshelves were purchased--using memorial donations—in memory of former Friends member, Connie Carlson, who recently passed away. Brass nameplates will be mounted on the bookshelves. Friends will serve as greeters and provide light refreshments on Jan. 22 (10 a.m.) for an author program featuring Jess Lourey, author of the Lefty-nominated murder-by-month mysteries set in Battle Lake, MN, featuring amateur sleuth, Mira James. b.A booksale cart meeting was held Dec. 5 with adult volunteers and Friends of the Library, who offered to help sort, price books and stock the sale cart. III.Projects a.412 books for children and teens were collected and delivered to SACA by the Friends. b.Friends members offered to assist with pricing and refilling the booksale shelf. c.December’s bulletin board library theme is based on a quote by author Garrison Keillor, “A book is a gift you can open again and again.” Winter Jackets reading program for adults starts Thurs., Jan. 2, 2014 d.Barb provided AskMN online reference service twice in December. e.At-Home Service: Barb selected materials and set up deliveries for six at-home patrons, with a total of 30 items. f.Supplies, DVDs, Audiobooks on CD and Music CDs were ordered. g.Spring program plans are being finalized. IV.Volunteers a.Volunteers completed 50 hours of volunteer time—delivering materials to at-home patrons, pricing sale books, refilling the book sale cart, sorting and delivering Books for SACA, serving as reading “Buddies,” and completing various tasks at the library. b.More volunteers are needed for Buddy Up and Read. Currently, there are three active, volunteer “Buddies” and five clients being served. There are nine potential clients on a waiting list.
