PROGRAMS a. Mad Science came to the library during MEA. Mad Scientist Kelley presented Science of Toys on 10/17 and Radical Robots on 10/18. b. Bulk loan of materials was prepared for a Minneapolis teacher to check out on her personal card. Contents included animal habitats, plants, and seeds. Other bulk loans went to ICS for Prek, th Kindergarten, 1, 2, and 5 grade classrooms. c. Classes from ICS visited on 10/14 and 10/15. d. Storytime was held 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, and 10/29. Bethany hosted her first storytime on 10/15. A special storytime was held on 10/29; children had the option of wearing their costumes to storytime and participated in a parade around the building. e. Baby Read, Baby Grow storytime was held each Thursday morning with the exception of 10/17. f. READ Dogs was held Monday nights, meeting on 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, and 10/28. g. Anoka County Child & Teen Check-ups had an informational booth and gave away free items and information to storytime attendees on 10/15 and 10/24. h. Teen Read Week was celebrated 10/14-10/19. Teens could have their pictures taken with their favorite book and enter a raffle to win prizes. Three teens participated. Their posters are displayed on the bulletin board. i. COLLECTION a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: Kirkus 5/1/13 and 5/15/13, Booklist 5/15/13. Orders were also placed in the following areas: replacements and adds. b. Weeding in nonfiction was started from J394.2-J398.20973. III. PROJECTS a. Plans for winter programming is underway. b. Preparation for the Book Warms winter reading program has begun. IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a. 10/24: Family literacy event at Valley View Elementary V. STAFF a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: putting out books for new and thematic displays, cutting out leaves for ongoing craft, and making a list of audiobooks ordered by ACL in 2013. b. Kelly Olson was the interim storyteller and trained Bethany in library cards and other processes in the children’s department. c. Candice Marsh’s last day was 10/8. I understand she contributed significantly to the children’s department and will be missed. Interviews for her replacement will take place the last week of October.
