II. COLLECTION
a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: School Library Journal 4/13 and Kirkus
2/1/13 and 3/1/13.
b. Weeding was done in the following areas: All of J paperback, J nonfiction 300’s, and Easy S.
III. PROJECTS
a. There are now new shelves in the J Fiction area. The job was done by Mid America Business
Systems, and the installation was done in a quick, efficient, and very satisfactory manner. The
increased shelf area allows us to shift the collection in a manner that now frees up space for us to add
an armchair in the area. Children now have one small place to sit and read!
b. Summer Reading VolunTeens: From June-August, volunteers have contributed 350 hours of their
time to assist the children’s department. On August 12, an appreciation reception was held in the
teens’ and READ Dog teams’ honor. Attendees were presented before the City Council and received
certificates and tokens of thanks for the commitment of time, work, and effort.
c. As teachers are returning to schools the final week of August, they have been contacted about bulk
loans and school visit services. I have begun this process and will have Kelly continue as the point
person to finalize schedules.
d. Bulk loan schedules for the 2013-2014 have been made, with just the details needing to be finalized.
e. Baby Read, Baby Grow’s new teacher visited the library on 8/26. He was given a tour of the
department and its resources, and will lead the program until the new librarian comes in.
IV.GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY
a.8/12: City Council Meeting
b.8/20: Page Meeting
c.8/21: ISD 13 New Teacher Orientation
d.8/26: ICS School Visit
V.STAFF
a.Pages have been focusing on tasks that can only be completed while I am here. They have
been diligent in working on weeding and selection tools in preparation for the interim when
there is no children’s librarian. They have done a wonderful job in assisting with shifting
books because of the new shelving. Pages have also been assisting with summer programs,
and contributed to another successful season of programming. It is a true team effort,
especially in the summer, to maintain the department while providing quality programs and
services.
b.Kelly Olson on a daily and/or weekly basis does money count, book orders, library cards,
magazines, and receiving book purchases. In the time that she was gone, Stacey Hendren
and Candice Marsh also assisted with some of her normal duties. Kelly assisted with the
raffle winners from the summer reading program, a weekly task that did require effort to
keep on top of! She will be assisting with programs and in September.
Candice Marsh has worked on publicity for fall programming. She completed several
c.
program posters and the events calendar. She updated our games inventory, kept program
statistics, updated folders and pictures, made new shelf labels, filed paperwork, and more.
She assisted with duties in Kelly’s absence. I value her contributions to the library, and
really appreciate the privilege to be a part of her professional growth in the time she has
been here.
d. Before my parting, I have accomplished the following:
i. General daily tasks for pages until October
ii. Weekly book orders until the month of October
iii. Weeding on schedule until the month of October
iv. Scheduling of substitutes for storytime until the month of October
v. Candice’s project work until October
vi. Detailed notes about Children’s Librarian tasks as I understand them, and as I have been
working on them
Almost two years have passed and I feel there is so much more to learn and accomplish. It is with
utmost confidence that I trust the next Children’s Librarian will come in and have an even further
and greater reach than what I’ve been able to do in the short time I have been here. It has been an
honor and a privilege to be a part of this library and community. Thank you for your support and
encouragement.
