SUBJECT: Adult Services June Operational Report

I.Programs
a.The Library Book Club met Wednesday, June 26, and discussed “Half Broke Horses: a
true-life novel” by Jeanette Walls. Fourteen adults attended.
II.Collection Development
a.27 popular and informational DVDs were ordered from Baker and Taylor.
b.25 music CDs were ordered from Baker and Taylor.
III.Projects
a.The first draft of the Heights Happenings for the Fall 2013 issue was submitted, to
include:
i.Library Programs
1.Author talk: Chris Niskanen, “The Minnesota book of skills: your guide
to smoking whitefish, sauna etiquette, tick extraction and more,”
Tuesday, Oct. 1, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
2.Business Survival Skills, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 6 p.m.

vii.Library Foundation fundraisers:
1.Spaghetti Dinner, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 4:30-7 p.m.
2.Movie Musical at the Heights Theater, Sunday, Dec. 8.
b.An adult summer book display was set up by the Library entrance. The theme is
“Summertime, summertime, sum, sum, summertime,” with book titles including the
word “summer.”
c.At Home Service: Elaine selected and set up deliveries for two patrons, totaling 2 books
and 11 CDs and a separate book pickup for one patron.
d.Library tour: Elaine conducted a library tour and informational session for eight students
from Columbia Heights Adult Basic Education.
e.Buddy Up and Read: Elaine researched and printed out grade levels 3 and 4 reading
comprehension exercises for volunteer mentor, Richard Anderson, to use with his ABE
reading buddy.
f.Office supplies were ordered from Office Depot and Demco.
g.Stacey Hendren designed a fan and postcard, promoting support for a new library, to
hand out to the public at the Jamboree Parade, Citywide Picnic and other events.
IV.Staff
a.Barb Kondrick started working, Monday, June 17, as new Adult Services Librarian and
was introduced at the City Council Meeting, Monday, June 24.
b.Elaine performed special tasks while Library Director Renee Dougherty was on vacation,
May 28-June 7, 2013, including time sheets, weekly Green Sheets, etc.
