I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Schindler Corporation conducted annual elevator inspection and maintenance on 6/12.
B. Aid Electric repaired a broken light switch on 6/17.
C. Fidelity buffed the floors in the Activity and staff room on 6/20.
D. NSI/Horwitz inspected the HVAC system and performed routine quarterly maintenance
including belt and filter changes on 6/18.
E. Ahern Fire Protection completed an annual inspection of the sprinkler system on 6/13.
F. During the storm of 6/21 the library experienced minor water intrusion into the lower
level through the north emergency door. An ornamental crab apple tree on the south side
of the building was lost.
II. COLLECTION
A. Regular book orders were placed during the month; selections were made from the
December, January, February or March issues of Booklist, Library Journal and Kirkus
Reviews. Popular adult paperbacks were added.
B. Reports of items with holds were reviewed weekly; additional titles were purchased as
needed.
C. Last copy weeding of books was done weekly. Weeding, per the annual schedule and
Collection HQ check list, was completed in the adult fiction M. Weeding of easy juvenile
picture books was also done.
D. Adult and juvenile DVDs and adult music CDs were added.
III. PROGRAMS
A. The Friends met on 6/3.
B. The Library Board met on 6/12.
C. Bulk loans were prepared for Adventure Club, Mini Adventure Club, and ICS.
D. Mai Kao presented two sessions of family story time.
E. Mai Kao presented four sessions of baby story time.
F. Four sessions of “Make and Take Monday” craft sessions were held.
G. Solar Prints, an art meets science program, was held on 6/ 15 and funded through the
Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
H. Three teen Manga Clubs were offered.
I. Three Wacky Wednesday programs were held.
J. The Adult Book Club met on 6/26.
K. Elaine gave a library tour and orientation to a class of English Language Learners from
the Adult Basic Education Center on 6/10.
L. Materials were selected and delivered to At Home Service patrons.
M. Teen volunteers assisted with the summer reading program and special events; adult
volunteers dusted, shifted books, and delivered materials to the homebound.
N. I proctored two examinations for a student from the University of North Dakota.
O. Members of the Library Board, Staff, and Task Force met the public and distributed
information about services at a booth at the Jamboree parade.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. Library public and staff computers experienced a marked reduction in internet access and
speed as well as periodic unexplained dropped connections throughout the month.
Information services staff continues to work with SonicWALL, the network security
software, to determine the cause of the problem.
V. STAFF
B. Barbara J. Kondrick joined the staff as the Adult Services Librarian on 6/17.
C. A Department of Defense investigator, conducting a security clearance background check
of a former library page seeking employment with the U.S. government, met with several
members of the library staff on 6/12.
D. Elaine Mamaril performed essential tasks, such as a defining work schedules, supervising
evening supervisors and pages, and processing of time cards, during my vacation
E. Kelly Olson and I met for her annual performance evaluation on 6/20.
F. On 6/21, staff gathered to share Dairy Queen treats and to congratulate high school
graduates and library pages Asiya Hassan and Andrew Hester
VI. FOUNDATION
A. I met with the Foundation on 6/12. The Foundation discussed the Task Force
recommendation, new developments with the owner of the Northeast Business Center
building, and plans for the Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser.
VII. MISC
A. I attended a MELSA-sponsored program on the MNSTAR program on 6/13. MNSTAR
helps Minnesotans with disabilities find the assistive technology they need to succeed.
B. I was contact by the State Library Statistics Specialist for clarification of two questions
on the 2012 annual report. Additional information and explanatory notes were added to
the report and it was resubmitted on 6/24.
C. I met with the Management Team of the Anoka County Library on 6/20.
D. I did a rudimentary revision of the procedures manual in anticipation of the arrival of the
new adult services librarian.
E. I received an orientation from Unique Management Services staff on the process used to
recover overdue materials and fines on 6/21.
