I. PROGRAMS
a. On 4/2, I hosted a field trip of 4 kindergarten classes from Valley View Elementary School. They
were given a library tour and brief storytime presentation.
b. Bulk loan of materials were prepared for Mini Adventures on 5/3.
c. Children’s Book Week was celebrated the week from 5/13-5/15. Children had the opportunity to
color or draw their favorite book to put on display. Promotional CD books and posters were also
given away.
d. The MacPhail Center for Music presented Sing! Play! Learn! on 5/14.
e. Classes from ICS made their final visit of the current school year on 5/12 and 5/15.
f. Training for this summer’s teen volunteers was held on 5/30.

II. COLLECTION
a. Book orders were placed from the following selection tools: Kirkus 1/1/13. Orders were also placed
in the following areas: replacements and adds.
b. Weeding in easy nonfiction was completed from E745-E999.
c. In order to accommodate the growing areas of easy readers and easy picture books, we will begin
shifting in these areas. The readers will move the yellow shelves, next to easy nonfiction and the
easies area will be expanded.
III. PROJECTS
a. A new ‘newsletter’ style template was created by Candice for the events calendar. These will be
distributed this summer in addition to the tri-fold events calendar in effort to explore the possibility
of using this template for future program publicity
b. Sixteen middle and high school students have submitted applications to volunteer this summer at the
library. After completing orientation training, they will be assisting the department and children’s
programs on a weekly basis this June, July, and August.
c. Almost all prizes and materials for the summer programs have been purchased or received. Final
preparations, including decorating the department are underway. Staff members have been trained in
summer reading registration.
d. Plans for fall programming is underway.
IV. GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY
a. 5/1: Final meeting with Phil Hewitt (Mid America Business Systems) to purchase shelving
b. 5/2: Ask MN online reference shift
c. 5/2: New city employees library tour
d. 5/7: New pages training for children’s department
e. 5/10: Summer Reading Club training (Northtown Library)
f. 5/14: Mending training with new pages and Stacey
g. 5/15: New page training for children’s department (continued)

j. 5/24: Parent Breakfast presentation (Dist. 13 Community Room)

V. STAFF
a. This month the major projects page staff worked on are as follows: shifting books because of the
recarpeting and preparing materials for summer programs.
b. Kelly Olson assisted in the teen volunteer orientation by preparing materials and leading some of the
training itself. She also assisted with the book shifting due to the recarpeting.
c. Candice Marsh has has organized the prizes for the summer reading club, worked on publicity, and
put up new bulletin boards in the department. She also assisted with the book shifting.
