II. COLLECTION
a. Book orders were placed in the areas as follows: Booklist 8/2012, 9/2012; and Kirkus
8/1/12, 8/15/2012, 9/2012.
b. Children’s shelving for non-fiction has been entirely relabeled because of the recent
shifting. There are also new Dewey subject posters on display above the shelves to help
assist library users in locating books.
c. Weeding was done in the following areas: E000-362 and Easy P’s.
d. Collection HQ: Collection Checks have been completed throughout the entire department
for both fiction and nonfiction. Books that are not on the shelf or missing have been
updated accordingly in Work Flows.
III. PROJECTS
a. The Summer Reading Program for the metro area is undergoing significant changes.
Planning for this is currently on hold until Anoka County has finalized details on how the
program will run this summer.
b. In the meantime, the following programs/performers have been booked:
6/19
Treasure Beyond Measure
7/3 Brodini Magic Show
7/10 Dazzling Dave Yo-Yo Master
7/17 RAD Zoo
c. Library events and programs were submitted to Heights Happenings for March, April,
and May.
d. The children’s winter reading program Book Warms will continue until the end of
February. Because we started two weeks later this year, the participation is at this point
only half of what it was at the same time last year. At the end of this program session, I
will reevaluate this program, its participation, and how to promote it in possible future
years.
e. As a member of ACL booklist workgroup, I am responsible for updating recommended
reading for new teen books, historical fiction, and parenting books on the Anoka County
Library website. This month and continuing in to February, I will be completing the
usual quarterly update.
IV. GRANTS, MEETING, COMMUNITY
a. City Council meeting on 1/28: I presented briefly on the Book Warms.
V. STAFF
a. Children’s Department Staff: This month the staff worked on the following: shelving,
weeding, shelf reading, book repair, and processing. The department having been
understaffed at various times throughout the month, pages really put forth effort in
customer service and assisting library users at the check out desk and at the internet
computers.
b. Supervisors were asked to assist with several projects this month. With their work, we
are now well ahead of schedule in putting book order together from selection tools.
Supervisors have also been working on collection development lists for children’s
nonfiction, finding the new books that have been added to Anoka County in the past 2
years that we have not purchased yet. They are also assisting with reader’s advisory by
putting together booklists based on genre.
c. Kelly Olson has been working year end statistics and reports. She continues to send out
library cards and reconcile registrations, update magazines, and work on book orders and
subscriptions. In terms of finance, she regularly does the deposit, bills, month end, and
invoices. She oversaw and put together all the bulk loans for this month in my absence.
On extremely short notice, Kelly held and led storytime on 1/15. She handled it with her
usual competence and professionalism, and she did a wonderful, notable job!
d. Candice Marsh has been working independently and diligently in my absence as well.
She completed a number of projects this month including: reorganizing and inventorying
the staff room supplies, relabeling all the non-fiction shelves, preparing all the materials
and supplies for the Winter Reading Program, publicity for upcoming programs, and
making new signage for the children’s department. She assisted to pulling books for the
bulk loans and continues to keep track of program statistics.
