CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM 1 COLUMBIA HEIGHTS Call to Order The meeting was called to order by President Steve Smith at 7: 00 p.m. Roll Call Members present: Matt Abel, Jeff Diehm, Rob Fiorendino, Roger Johnson, Nancy King, Carolyn Laine, Michael Patiuk, Nicholas Rivers, Greg Sloat, Steve Smith, Charles Tyler Members absent and excused: Lee Bak, Tim Utz Members absent and unexcused: Nick Jentsch We now have fourteen members. Also present: Tami Diehm, Council Liaison; Jim Hoeft City Attorney Carole Blowers, Recording Secretary, was not present at this meeting. Approval of Tonight's A eg nda Motion was made and seconded to approve tonight's agenda as presented. Approval of Charter Commission Minutes of July 19, 2012 Motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of July 19, 2012, as presented. Election of Secretary President Steve Smith stated when Rachel Schwankl decided not to be reappointed, we then did not have a Secretary for the Commission. So a new Secretary should be elected. Members decided not to fill the Secretary position officially tonight, but that position should be filled in January when we elect new officers. Status of Membership Rob Fiorendiono is the latest appointment to the Charter Commission. He introduced himself to the commission. We have one vacancy on the commission at this time. Katherine Pepple's four year term ended in September, and she has not asked to be reappointed. As of tonight, Nick Jentsch has now missed four consecutive meetings without being excused, and he has not attended since April of 2011. He should be removed from the commission. His term was to end in March of 2015. Correspondence The correspondence log since our last meeting was read, which included various e -mails between Commissioner Tyler and President Smith; city charter pages were updated with latest change regarding elections (with a link available on the city's website). New charters have been given to city personnel, the Mayor and Councilmembers, and our meeting agenda was listed on cable TV. New Business New pages of the City Charter were passed out to members of the Charter Commission tonight. The president of the commission made a statement regarding the safety and security of public meetings. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m. Submitted by Nancy King
