HomeMy WebLinkAboutOperational Report for Mai Kao To: Renee Dougherty, Interim Library Director From: Mai Kao Xiong, Children’s Librarian Subject: August Operational Report Date: August 29, 2012 I.PROGRAMS a.Bookawocky Summer Reading Program ends on August 31. b.Bulk loan materials (1bin, 45 books) were prepared for Mini Adventures Club picked up on 8/23. Adventure Club picked up 3 bins on 8/30. c.Program counts are as follows: Date Program Children Adults 8/2 Bird-a-wocky 38 19 8/7 Schiffelly Puppets 89 45 8/13 Volunteer Recognition 4C, 18T 16 II.COLLECTION a.Book orders were placed in a number of areas including the following: Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, Maud Hart Lovelace nominees, adds, books on CD, non-fiction, series, and replacements. b.Labels on the EJ FIC, J FIC, and YA FIC paperback spinners were updated and replaced. c.Shelf Reading assignments for pages have been revised and updated in order to accommodate shifting in the collection. The new form will be used starting in September. III.PROJECTS a.A special Olympics themed bulletin board and book display was put up at the end of July through August. Adults and children were encouraged to put a little flag on a world map, representing the countries they are from. Almost 80 participated! b.Summer Reading VolunTeens put in 80.5 hours of service this month. The volunteers have put in over 550 hours of service this summer. Fifteen volunteers, with family and friends, attended the thank you reception on 8/13 and were recognized before the City Council. Pat Sowoda, Catherine Vesley, and Renee Dougherty also present on behalf of the Library and Board. c.The Fall Events Calendar was completed, sent to print, and we should receive the order by the last week of August. IV.GRANTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY a.Library Foundation Board meeting on 8/1. b.Library Board meeting on 8/1. c.Page Meeting on 9/21. Items discussed are as follows: Fall schedule and program registration, public space etiquette, and the unattended child procedures. d.District 13 new Teacher Orientation visit at the library on 9/22. Teachers and staff took a tour of the library, were given a library informational packet, and introduced to library services. 21 adults were in attendance. e.Presented on library services, class visits, and bulk loans at Immaculate Conception School’s Teacher Orientation on 8/27. V.STAFF a.Pages: This month the staff worked on the following: shelving, weeding, program set up, summer reading program sign-ups and awarding of prizes, relabeling the spinner racks, pulling books for bulletin board displays, selection tool lists, processing new books, and finding missing books. i.Dan assisted in re-writing the Shelf Reading Assignments. ii.I trained the new pages Chelsea and Asiya on various children’s department tasks, including weeding and selection tools. b.Library Aide: Summer programs wrap up this month. Candice Marsh has been collecting program statistics and will begin final reports in the upcoming weeks. She made the Fall Events calendar and publicity posters for Fall programs. She sent out library cards, filed paperwork, and put up two bulletin boards: “International Friendship Day” and “Back to School.” c.Children’s Clerk: Kelly counted money, placed book orders, received orders, and sent out a few contracts for children’s programs. She did bills, P.O.’s, and library cards. She also assisted with planning and set up for the Volunteer Party on 8/13 and the Teacher Orientation on 8/22.
