Present were Joe Sturdevant, Roger Peterson, Karin Leishman and Council- member Julienne Wyckoff. Julienne Wyckoff conducted the meeting and agreed to take minutes. Minutes from Ma)' 9, 2001 were approved. We moved fight in to New Business - Community Circles Conversations. Nobocb.' on the Human Sen4ces CommiSsion are involved, and the Conversations have already startect However, we would like to be kept posted on its progress, and hopefully get involved in the furore. Discussion moved to planning the 2nd Annual Taste of Columbia Heights, which will take place on March 24, 2002. It was agreed that Mttt-O.'n Hall is still the best locatiork but we need more space. Perhaps ffwe utilize the rooms on the first floor to spread the event out more? Julierme will ask Keith Windschitl if food could be sen,ed on carpeted areas, as two or three restaurants could fit in there. If people have to walk down the stairs, vendors down ,_here would be disadvantaged against those senSng upstairs. Tickets ~aSll be sold in advance, as well as at the door. Booths representing different cultures are popular, but entertainment will have to be more strictly monitorext Leishman suggested putting ads in the local paper to solicit restaurants. This would be done to avoid seeming to favor certain businesses. Restaurants would be asked to list possible menu items. However, because of space constraints, final selection would be up to the Human SenSces Commission. Restaurants that participated last 3'ear would be first invited, and then vendors thal stressed an "Ethnic" cuisine, as that is what the event is about anyway. 6 restaurants participated last year - El Bustan, E1 Tequila, Olive Tree, Sahib's, with the Balkan Ex-press and Dain.' Queen sen,ing desserts and only taking up a small amount of space. We really only have room for maybe 2 more restaurants, and all vendors should be reminded that the5' don't need to serve complete meals, just give tastings. The next meeting will be on Weds., November 14 at 6:30. It was decided that the lauer time was more convenient to members.
