HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary 19, 2000l OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS COLUMBIA HEIGHTS HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES JANUARY 19, 2000 CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. Present were commission members LaMere, Karol, Sturdevant, Wyckoff and Clerkin, Assistant to the City Manager Magee and City Planner Hollman. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES Motion by Wyckoff, seconded by Karol to approve the minutes of the November 10, 1999 Commission meeting. Roll Call: All ayes. OLD BUSINESS Other Old Business-Magee reported that an informational letter and twenty packets were given to LaMere to have available at the middle school for those students interested in participating in the essay contest. The deadline is January 28, 2000. To date, no essays have been received. NEW BUSINESS Ao Review of Public Service Agency Application for CDBG Funds and Recommendations Hollman distributed a memo regarding additional public service agency information. Discussion ensued regarding the requests. After much discussion, it was moved by Wyckoff, seconded by Clerkin to recommend that the City Council fund the public service agency requests for 2000 CDBG funding in the following amounts: Public Service A~encv Senior Outreach Program(ACCAP) $14,539 ARC of Anoka County $ 2,000 Alexandra House $ 3,500 Ckildren's Home Crisis Nursery $1,000 CEAP $1,611 Hot Meals for Shut Ins $ 3,100 SACA $ 5,000 Handyworks Program $1,000 Fathers' Resource Center $1,500 Central Center for Family Resources N/A Resource Center for Fathers/Families N/A Families Moving Forward N/A Columbia Heights Public Schools N/A Family Center TOTAL 1999 Approved Amount 2000 2000 Requested Recommended Amount Funding Amount $13,183 $8,793 $ 3,000 $1,500 $ 3,500 $2,000 $ 5,000 $3,000 $ 2,0O0 $ 500 $ 4,650 $4,500 $ 8,000 $7,500 $1,000 $ 500 N/A N/A $ 3,000 $2,000 $ 2,000 $ 500 $ 3,000 -0- $27,853 $1,000 $31,793 The Commission felt that they did not have enough information on Families Moving Forward (Example, how many Columbia Heights residents would be affected). They would encourage them to apply again next year. B. Other New Business Magee reminded the commission that the next meeting will be March 8, 2000 at which time Humanitarian of the Year will be discussed. 5.
