I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. RW Ceilings and Walls painted the lobby and stairwell on 7/12.
B. The windows were cleaned 7/10.
C. Heights Electric repaired light fixtures on 7/26.
D. I met with the retiring Director and Facilities Management Supervisor on 7/5 to review
projects for the summer.
E. The workroom carpet was soaked due to a leaking faucet during landscape watering. I am
exploring repair or replacement of two external faucets.
F. A connection to enable fiber-optic communication with Anoka County was installed on
7/19.
II. COLLECTION
A. Regular book orders were placed during the month.
B. A paperback order was placed.
C. Orders for DVDs and adult audiobooks were placed.
D. Collection development in the adult 600-642 has been started.
E. 10-day book requests were added weekly.
III. PROGRAMS
A. The Summer Reading Program continued in July. As of 7/25, there were 745 registered
elementary age readers and 293 registered teens.
B. The Library Board met on 7/3.
C. The Friends bid farewell to the Director on 7/2.
D. Nineteen Volunteens worked over 200 hours. One adult volunteered.
E. Mai Kao conducted five sessions of preschool story time.
F. Mad Science presented a program on 7/7.
G. Two literature-based Lego Camp programs were held on 7/23 and 7/30. Both sessions
were full!
H. Three Wacky Wednesdays were held during July: Matt Dunn (7/11), Alan Johnson
st
(7/18), and Dakota Wild Animals (7/25). These programs are provided through 21
Century grant funding.
I. Sessions of the popular READ Dogs program were held on 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, and 7/30.
J. The Center for Book Arts presented a program for teens on 7/13, and programs for
children on 7/20 and 7/27.
K. David LaRochelle presented a program on 7/19.
L. The popular American Girl Birthday Party was held on 7/31.
M. One bulk loan was prepared for Adventure Club.
N. The Adult Book Club met on 7/25 and discussed The Catcher in the Rye.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. Replacement of the desktop workstation at Reference 1 desk was completed.
V. STAFF
A. Stacey attended a meeting of lead circulation workers in Anoka County Libraries.
B. Mai Kao and I staffed a table at the Police Department Community Picnic on 7/25. We
spoke with 55 children and 45 adults to promote the library programs and services.
C. Two new pages, Asiya Hassan and Chelsea Koth, began training on 7/27.
D. I proctored an exam for a University of Minnesota-Morris student.
E. Ramon made regular updates to website and Facebook pages.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation did not meet in July.
VII. MISC
A. The Library Task Force met twice during the month. The survey of the public concerning
library service ended on 7/21 and compilation of results is in process.
B. A patron reported property stolen while using the public computers. A police report was
made and her cell phone was recovered.
C. Major projects:
a. Proposed 2013 budget hearing with City Manager and Finance Director.
b. Fall schedule for part-time Supervisors
c. Interviewing for Page positions and selection of two new employees
d. Reference interactions tracked 7/16-7/21 as part of MELSA Crossover Survey.
