Rebecca Loader From: Renee Dougherty Subject: April 2012 Operational Report Date: April 25, 2012 I.Programs a.The Friends of the Library met at the Dragon House on April 2. Love Your Library raised $816.84 toward the purchase of forty-three books and audiobooks for the collection. The Friends agreed to assist by serving cake and punch at the retirement party for Marsha Tubbs on April 23. They also authorized the use of the Campbell’s Labels for Education credits to acquire 12 children’s DVDs for the collection. The Friends earned the credits by collecting, preparing, and submitting labels from qualifying food products. b.At Home Service selected and delivered thirty-five items to four patrons this month. c.Three adult volunteers contributed seven hours of service. Volunteers read with adult learners and delivered materials to At Home patrons. d.Fifteen participated in the adult Book Club discussion of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I provided discussion questions and member Barbara Tantanella facilitated the conversation. e.One mentor/reader team met during the month in the Buddy Up and Read program. II.Collection Development a.An order of adult music CDs, mostly popular new releases, was placed with Baker and Taylor. b.An order of adult DVDs, new releases and replacements of classic titles, was submitted to Baker and Taylor. c.A small order for adult audiobooks was placed with Books on Tape. d.Audiobooks for children and adults from the Love Your Library project were ordered from Recorded Books and Baker and Taylor. e.Children’s DVDs were ordered from the Campbell’s Labels for Education program. III.Projects a.All travel materials requested from the state tourism agencies were received and placed in the vertical file. b.Weeding was completed for music in sections CD 781.65M-781.655; adult and juvenile videos in sections DVD 810-909 and DVD H; and adult audiobooks in sections CD 810-909 and CD H. c.The large lobby display celebrated National Library Week. Photos of the staff with their favorite books were displayed under the slogan, You Belong At Your Library. The mayoral proclamation was also displayed. d.The slat wall display featured favorite staff books for the first half of the month to coincide with National Library Week. A display of books on personal finance, credit repair, retirement planning, and saving money was installed midmonth to promote financial literacy and encourage post-tax season financial planning. Books nominated for the 2012 Minnesota Book Awards were displayed near the public internet computers through April 14 when the winners were announced. e.Remaining tax forms were inventoried; remainder counts reported to the federal tax form outlet program; and the surplus forms were recycled. Federal forms for amending returns and submitting estimated taxes and state forms for property tax refunds are still available. f.I attended the Library Task Force meetings on April 9 and 16. g.Orders for office and program supplies were placed with Office Depot. h.I attended the Safety Committee on April 11.
