Rebecca Loader From: Renee Dougherty Subject: February 2012 Operational Report Date: February 29, 2012 I.Programs a.The Friends of the Library met on February 6. The Friends finalized plans for their “Love Your Library” project to begin in March. I prepared a press release about the project for the Northeaster and Columbia Heights Fridley Sun Focus newspapers. I also compiled a list of titles from the director and children’s librarian. b.At Home Service selected and delivered thirty items to five patrons this month. c.Four volunteers contributed fifteen and one-quarter hours of service. Volunteers read with adult learners, delivered materials to At Home patrons, compiled a scrapbook of newspaper clippings, and dusted shelves. d.I assisted Barbara Tantanella in leading the adult Book Club discussion of Tom Franklin’s Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter. e.Winter Jackets, the reading program for adults, concluded on February 29. One hundred and ninety participants read books, submitted reviews of them, received small prizes, and were eligible for weekly prize drawings. Winners of the weekly prize drawings were Stephanie Alvarez, Kay Reiners, Cindy Mainella, Laura Fix, and H. Maxine Putz. Participants were encouraged to “Share the Warmth” by donating hot cocoa mix, coffee, and tea for the S.A.C.A. food shelf. f.An extremely successful event with author Julie Kramer was held on February 8. Fifty-four adults attended; fifteen of them completed evaluation forms. Evaluations were positive and rated the program 6.3 on a 7-point scale. I prepared a final report for the Minnesota Book Award program which provided a grant for the speaker’s honorarium. g.Two teams of mentors and readers continue to meet weekly in the Buddy Up and Read program. II.Collection Development a.A small order of DVDs was placed with Baker and Taylor. b.An order of adult music CDs was prepared; the order included 2012 Grammy winners. III.Projects a.I prepared and presented information on the structure of library cooperation in Minnesota and adult library services for the Citizen’s Academy on February 9. b.With the assistance of clerk Ramon Gomez and adult typist Stacey Hendren, I weeded substantial sections of adult audiobooks (Fiction H-J and non-fiction 790-809), adult and juvenile non-fiction videos (790-809) and music (781.64) c.The large lobby display promoted the Winter Jackets adult reading program and the slat wall featured books recommended by Winter Jackets participants along with a selection of their reviews. d.I continued to monitor the supply of federal and state tax forms throughout the month, reordering forms and schedules as needed. e.I assisted the Library Director with the preparation of the Library portion of the city annual report. f.Orders for office and program supplies were placed with Office Depot. g.I completed training on Overdrive downloadable audiobooks on February 14 and presented the training to other library staff members on February 27. h.I attended a strategic planning meeting with the Library Board on February 29.
