Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: February operational report DATE: February 24, 2012 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. Loeffler came out 2/2 to check on the error log on the print manager. B. The hallway carpeting in the lower level was steam-cleaned 2/3. C. Steve installed the Overdrive Consul and security updates on select staff pcs 2/9 in preparation for showing patrons how to download e-audio books. D. The breaker connected to the exhaust fan in the restrooms developed a loose wire 2/13. Tim Barnes was able to correct the problem. E. Tempco will provide staff training on how to run the new monitoring system 2/24. F. The windows were cleaned 2/2. G. Orkin inspected for pests 2/23. II. COLLECTION A. A large order of adult 600 collection development items was placed 2/23. Replacement and add orders for juvenile materials were also placed. B. A DVD order was placed. C. Adult weeding is taking place in the 600’s. D. Electronic book check-outs continue to be extremely popular. E. The project on low circulation materials has been completed. III. PROGRAMS A. Four sessions of preschool story time were held during the month. B. Author Julie Kramer presented a special program 2/8 as part of Winter Jackets. This program was funded by a grant from the St. Paul Public Library Friends. C. The bulk loan was delivered to the school 2/9. D. The Library Board met 2/1 with all members present. E. 2/9 was the Library’s night to participate in the City’s Citizens’ Academy program. The attendees seemed to be focused on the presentations and asked good questions. I would like to see the City continue the program. F. Four sessions of “Kids’ Club” were held 2/21-2/24. st G. Becky and Mai Kao met with Linda Ernst, ISD #13, on 2/28 in regards to the 21 Century Grant. H. The Board met 2/29 for their second strategic planning session. I. A special storytime was held 2/29 in honor of Leap Day. J. The adult book club met 2/29 to discuss Crooked letter, crooked letter. K. “Winter Jackets” and “Book Warms” reading clubs ended 2/29. A box of warm beverages collected from the patrons during the duration of the club was donated to SACA. L. Five classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library during the month. M. The Friends met 2/6 with 9 people in attendance. They made preparations for the “Love Your Library” promotion they are doing in March. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. The issues with CH5 coming up at the wrong time have been resolved. B. Steve is working on printing problems from Stacey’s pc. C. The issues with the print release station giving out free copies appear to be resolved. V. STAFF A. Renee took a webinar on Overdrive e-audio books 2/10. B. Ramon trained new Page Gianna Ritzko and new Aide Candice Marsh during the month. Renee, Mai Kao, Stacey, and Kelly assisted with training. Both of them joined the regular schedule on 2/6. C. Mai Kao attended the ECFE family picnic 2/3. D. Stacey observed story times at NTN and CEN in February. E. Mai Kao completed the required MELSA reference webinars during the month. F. Elaine, Renee, and Mai Kao received training in the Overdrive e-audio process 2/14 from Monica Campbell, ACL Adult Services Manager. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 2/8 with seven members and special guest, Tom Letness, present. Mr. Letness, owner of the Heights Theatre, discussed fundraisers and potential movies to be shown with the Board. It was decided not to have a fundraiser in April, but to concentrate on the December date with the possibility of adding acts to the show. The Board will hold a brainstorming session at their next meeting. VII. MISC A. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 2/6-2/11. B. I proctored three exams in February. C. Major Projects: a. Preparation of the City version of the 2011 annual report b. Staff scheduling for coverage c. Library Task Force d.
