Rebecca Loader From: Renee Dougherty Subject: January 2012 Operational Report Date: January 25, 2012 I.Programs a.The Friends of the Library met on January 9. The Friends began planning the “Love Your Library” project to fund classic book replacement to be launched in March. b.At Home Service selected and delivered thirty-three items to four patrons this month. c.Four volunteers, including one new volunteer, contributed fifteen hours of service. Volunteers read with adult learners, compiled a scrapbook of newspaper clippings about Jamboree events, and shredded outdated files. d.I lead the book club in a heated discussion of Broke, USA by Gary Rivlin. e.Winter Jackets, the reading program for adults, began on January 9. Participants read books, submit reviews of them, receive small prizes, and are eligible for weekly prize drawings. Twenty-seven reviews have been submitted to date. The children’s librarian and I prepared and delivered a rd presentation about the winter reading programs at the January 23 City Council meeting. I also prepared a press release announcing Winter Jackets for the Sun Focus and Northeaster newspapers. f.Planning for the event with author Julie Kramer continued. A press release was prepared and emailed to area newspapers, radio stations and the community education office of the school district. II.Collection Development a.An order for DVDs, including classic adult movies and newly released children’s videos, was placed with Baker and Taylor. b.A small order of adult audiobooks was placed with Baker and Taylor. III.Projects a.I weeded sections of adult audiobooks (E-G) and adult videos (C-G). b.The large lobby display promotes the Winter Jackets adult reading program and the slat wall features books recommended by Winter Jackets participants along with a selection of the reviews submitted. c.Federal and state tax forms were received and displayed. d.Information about library programs and services for adults was compiled for the spring issue of Heights Happenings. e.Statistics for the annual report were submitted to the Library Director. f.Supplies were ordered from Office Depot and Brodart.
