I. PROGRAMS
a. The last sessions of Fall Storytime (Tuesdays 10AM) were held. Families expressed their
enjoyment of the program and look forward to its start up in the new year.
b. READ Dogs ended on a high note with a parent commenting, “This has been the best run
READ dogs since it started.” T-shirts and a small giveaway were given to trainer teams
and readers, and participants were asked to complete a survey. It would not have been so
organized and successful without Kelly, Rachel, Michelle, and Regina, as well as with
the set-up assistance of Lauren and Tracy.
c. The Fall Films program wrapped up on 11/19. Attendance during the final 3 movies was
at its highest throughout the program.
d. Bulk loan of materials (4 bins, 200 books) were prepared for Adventure Club on 11/10.
Bulk loan of materials (3 bins) were prepared for Immaculate Conception and picked up
on 11/18.
e. Four classes from Heights Head Start visited the library on 11/14 and 11/16. The groups
participated in a 30 minute special storytime and had a small tour of the Department.
f. Three classes from Immaculate Conception visited on 11/15 and 11/17.

II. COLLECTION
a. Book orders were placed in the areas as follows: 1 replacement; 3 additional copies,
requests, or series updates; 1 board book; 1 graphic novel; SLJ 5/2011; Kirkus 5/1/2011,
5/15/2011, 6/1/2011; Booklist 5/15/201, 6/1/2011 & 6/15/2011.
b. New board books: Families have commented they are very pleased with the new board
books, noticing the selection of classics and just released titles.
c. Weeding
a. J Fiction: Weeding is currently focused in this area.
b. Weeding continues ahead of schedule for YA, J CDs, E and NF.
III. PROJECTS
a. Graphic novels in the spinning rack have been reorganized, with shelf labels updated and
books shifted in order to make the titles easier to browse and locate.
b. Publisher donation shelves in the alley: Books that were no-hits in Workflows and not
intended to be added to the collection were pulled and donated to Project Bookshelf.
c. Low circ project: Titles from this list were pulled and evaluated; they were either kept
and reshelved, or withdrawn according to weeding guidelines.
d. Shifting because of overcrowded shelves:
i. YA books on CD have been relocated to the YA nonfiction.
ii. J FIC books on CD have been expanded to part of shelving, located underneath
the oversized graphic novels.
IV. GRANTS, MEETING, COMMUNITY

a. Grants: Budgets from 21 Century grant have been reviewed and planning for next
quarter expenditures has begun.
b. Community:
i. North Park Elementary requested the library to be present at their parent/teacher
conferences. I visited the school the following evenings: 11/17 and 11/21.
Materials about the library were distributed and I was available to answer
questions.
ii. I additionally attended ECFE’s Community Baby Shower on 11/17. Library
resources and programs available to babies and families as well as a short
presentation on early literacy were given.
V. STAFF
a. This month the department was very busy not only with the wrap up of programming, but
also with school group visits and my attending in school programs. Planning and
preparations for programming in the January has begun. I attended the highly
informative CPR training at the Police and Fire Station.
b. Children’s Department Clerk: Kelly Olson placed book orders, receiving shipments, and
worked with vendors to reconcile accounts and standing orders. This month she has
made purchase requisitions, processed applications and addressed issues related to library
cards, worked on magazines, completed statistics, budget transfers, invoices and money
deposits. Kelly also assisted with READ Dogs prep and follow-up, bulk loans, and
training Carrie.
c. Temporary Children’s Library Aide: The following projects this month were complete by
Ramon Gomez: a new bulletin display “Dragonology” on the slat wall, filing, Jan-Apr
Events COH brochure, new shelf labels, and creating Fountas and Pinnell reading lists.
d. Pages maintain the collection through check-in, shelving, shelf reading, weeding, and
shifting. They assist with processing new books and reports of new titles from selection
tools. Other completed projects include: CD/book combo bag replacements, new
bulletin and bin displays, and making new shelf labels.
