Rebecca Loader From: Renee Dougherty Subject: July 2011 Operational Report Date: July 27, 2011 I.Programs a.The Friends of the Library did not meet in July. b.At Home Service selected and delivered sixty items to eight patrons this month. I have also promoted the program to Aaron Johnson, the life enrichment director of the Lighthouse of Columbia Heights. c.Five volunteers contributed thirteen hours of service this month. Volunteers serve as reading buddies, deliver materials to At Home patrons, and assemble a historical scrapbook. I met with Carrie Magnuson, who is interested in volunteering regularly; she has begun to work on the scrapbook of library history. d.I received an inquiry about the Buddy Up and Read program from Khadra Abdalla and have paired her with Friend of the Library Sharon Struss. e.I lead the book group in discussion of The Ghost by Robert Harris, a fictional tale of suspense involving a former British prime minister, the CIA, and the war on terrorism. f.I met with the Safety Committee on July 13. II.Collection Development a.I placed two large orders for children’s and adult non-fiction DVDs this month. b.I also placed an order for adult audiobooks funded by a donation from the Friends of the Library. III.Projects a.The large lobby display continues to promote JobNow, the online job, interview, and resume coaching service. The slat wall book display featured fiction and non-fiction books with prominent canine characters under the heading, “Books for the Dog Days of Summer.” b.Orders for office, library, and security supplies were placed with Office Depot, Demco and Minitex. c.I participated in a webinar on OneClickDigital, a new library service for downloading audiobooks. d.Along with the library director, I helped to promote library services at the Community Picnic sponsored by the Police Department on July 19. e.I assisted the director with the performance evaluation of Rukia Sheikh-Mohamed. f.I made a presentation on ebooks and audiobooks at the City Council meeting on July 25. g.I corresponded with Minnesota author David Housewright about a possible event at the library in the fall.
