July operational report

I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 7/15.
B. Water leaked in the women’s restroom on the main floor 7/5. Worn-out plumbing fixtures
are scheduled to be replaced.
C. Hot water was restored to the Library on 7/7.
D. A gas leak was discovered in the boiler room 7/12. The repair was expedited by
NSI/Horwitz.
E. Public Works has maintained the new plantings and landscaping around the building. Thanks
to the Beautification Committee for the flowers in the planters.
F. The boiler replacement project is almost complete. The radiator covers still need to be
painted and the redundant sensors removed from the radiators.
G. The public copier is working for simple copies, but is not yet functional on the network with
the public computers. Jesse and Joe are working on resolving the issue with Loffler.
H. The windows were cleaned 7/15.
I. The central roof air conditioning unit malfunctioned 7/26 and had to be turned off at the
circuit breaker. NAC came out 7/26 to repair it, as it is under warranty.
II. COLLECTION
A. Multiple book orders were submitted during the month.
B. DVD’s and CD’s were ordered and received.
C. Adds and replacements were ordered for the adult collection.
D. Thanks to the Friends for the donation they made to purchase adult and juvenile books on
CD.
E. I reviewed the periodical subscription renewal, made changes, and processed the order.
F. Adult nonfiction weeding is complete through 628. Adult fiction is weeded through B.
G. The Pages completed mending the periodicals. They are currently working on cleaning
the CD collection.
H. Collection development in the 500’s was completed.
III. PROGRAMS
A. The Friends did not meet in July.
B. Thanks to the Friends for donating two archival storage boxes for rolled documents and a
tabletop book display unit.
C. The Library Board met 7/76 with all members and two staff in attendance.
D. Treasure Beyond Measure presented a special story time 7/5.
E. Three Children’s Matinee films were shown: “Lemony Snickett” (7/11), “Babe” (7/18),
and “Shrek” (7/25).
F. A two-part Star Wars clinic was held 7/22 and 7/29.
G. The Adult Book Club discussed Ghost 7/27.
H. Guest story teller, Sarah Brown, presented three sessions of preschool storytime in July.
I. Four Wacky Wednesdays were held during the month: Mixed Nuts (7/6), Rad Zoo
(7/13), Splatter Sisters (7/20), and Magical Mia (7/27).
J. Renee and I staffed a table at the Community Picnic 7/19 at Huset Park.
K. Carrie Magnusson started as an adult volunteer 7/21 and is working on updating the
Library’s scrapbook.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. Preparation for the new City website has started. Ramon will be the primary person for
maintaining the Library’s section, and Stacey will be his back-up.
B. The furniture needed for the new Gates computers finally arrived and has been
assembled. Jesse and Jeff installed the new computers 7/28.
V. STAFF
A. Rukia Sheikh-Mohamed celebrated her second work anniversary during the month.
Rukia was a Volunteen for three summers before she was a Page.
B. Renee made a presentation to the City Council at their 7/25 meeting on e-books and
audio books.
C. Renee attended a meeting of the City Safety Committee 7/13.
D. I met with Marlene Moulton-Janssen, Director of ACL, on 7/13 about various topics.
E. Part-time reference staff participated in the MELSA required webinars during the month.
F. I sat in on an oral history interview with local author Irene Parsons 7/20. Irene is the
author of Columbia Heights: bootstrap town. The interview was part of an effort by
the Anoka County Historical Society to preserve first person local history.
G. I attended one ACL Management Team meeting during the month of July.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board did not meet in July.
VII. MISC
A. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 7/11-7/16.
B. Major projects:
