I.Programs
a.The Friends of the Library met at the Dragon House this month. They celebrated the
success of the ‘Love Your Library’ project which raised $1077 to replace damaged, lost
and worn materials. Chair Rita Norberg and I sent letters of gratitude to the community
via the Sun Focus and Northeaster newspapers.
b.At Home Service selected and delivered twenty-five items to three patrons this month.
c.Six volunteers contributed sixteen hours of service serving as reading buddies and
delivering materials to At Home patrons.
d.I assisted Irene Parsons in leading the book group in discussion of Hannah Tinti’s The
Good Thief.
e.The Spring Fling adult movie series began on April 12 and continues through May 17.
Attendance has been light.
II.Collection Development
a.I placed two orders for audiobooks with Books on Tape and Baker & Taylor in order to
have new materials available to meet summer travel demand. I also placed small DVD
orders for new feature films from Midwest Tape and classic movies from Baker &
Taylor.
III.Projects
a.I planned and installed a display on essential library services for the display case at City
Hall. I elaborated on the theme of National Library Week (creating stories) and
illustrated how the stories of the library are literacy, lifelong learning, entertainment and
enjoyment, community, and enduring value.
b.The large lobby display and slat wall display at the library celebrated National Library
week and the 2011 theme, “Create Your Own Story @ the Library.” The slat wall
featured books on creating stories in various media – film, html, fabric, print, music.
c.Press releases and posters were created to publicize an author visit by Doug Ohman on
May 7.
d.As part of the Safety Committee, I participated in a training session conducted by the
League of Minnesota Cities. Committee members learned to conduct an ergonomic
assessment of an office space.
e.Tax forms were displayed through April 25. We will continue to display Minnesota
property tax forms and federal forms for filing extensions and amended returns through
the end of the summer.
f.Weeding of the following sections was completed: adult music CDs 781.6 - 781.62, and
DVDs B.
g.Orders for office and library supplies were placed with Office Depot, General Book
Covers, and Demco. Chairs for the children’s circulation area were ordered from
Belnick.
h.I completed webinars on video in libraries and working with the workforce centers to
serve job seekers.
