I.Programs
a.This month, the Friends of the Library launched the “Love Your Library” project
seeking donations to replace lost and worn copies of library materials. I am thrilled
to report that, as of March 28, the Friends have collected over $900 in donations for
beloved children’s and adult books, and movies!
b.At Home Service delivered forty-two items to three patrons this month.
c.Five volunteers contributed twenty-one hours of service serving as reading buddies
and delivering materials to At Home patrons.
d.I lead the book group in a lively discussion of Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal,
Vegetable, Miracle.
e.The adult reading program, Winter Jackets, concluded at the end of February.
Columbia Heights Library collected one-hundred twenty-five entries, the second
highest participation among the nine libraries in the county. Ruthann Swanson won
grand-prize drawing for a book bag.
II.Collection Development
a.I placed an order for adult music with Baker and Taylor. CDs from Grammy award
winners, movie soundtracks, and greatest hit compilations from the 2011 inductees
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were added to the collection.
III.Projects
a.The large lobby display and slat wall display were devoted to the Friends’ Love
Your Library program. The slat wall featured instructions for making donations and
the titles of the books and movies for replacement. The large bulletin board tracked
names of donors and titles of materials donated.
b.I met with the city Safety Committee on March 9.
c.The library continued to receive federal tax forms throughout the month of March
which were displayed for pickup as they arrived.
d.Travel information from each state was requested to update the vertical file pamphlet
collection.
e.Weeding of the following sections was completed: adult fiction audiobooks A-B;
adult music CDs 780.542 J - 781.599, and adult DVDs A.
f.The book sale cart continues to feature with donated books, CDs, and movies, as
well as items removed from the collection.
g.I planned displays for the library bulletin board and the display case at City Hall to
be installed in honor of National Library Week in April. I also drafted a Council
proclamation for National Library Week and prepared a list of display materials
around the theme, “Create Your Own Story @ Your Library.”
