41AVENUE AND 6 STREET
Mr Dan Barrett has made the following requests:
thst
Install East-West stop signs at the intersection of 6 Street and 41 Avenue.
thnd
Revise the stop signs at 6 Street and 42 Avenue stopping East-West traffic
instead of North-South traffic.
th
Install East-West stop signs at each uncontrolled intersection from 37 Avenue to
rd
53 Avenue.
Mr Barrett’s concern is the potential for accidents at uncontrolled intersections. His
e-mail is included in your packet.
thst
The intersection at 6 Street and 41 Avenue does have limited visibility in the northeast
corner with the elevation of the yard and position of the house. There have been 5
accidents at this intersection over the last three years. Four have been caused by a failure
to yield. The other accident involved a vehicle backing into a parked car.
th
The Police Department compiled accident records in Grid 11 (University Avenue to 7
thth
Street from 40 Avenue to 44 Avenue) for January 2009 through May 2010. The
information is displayed on the attached map.
Staff does not recommend installing stop signs at all uncontrolled intersections. Each
intersection should be reviewed in accordance with the guidelines in the MnMUTCD.
These are included with your packet for your reference.
RECOMMENDED MOTION: Move to call a Public Hearing to install Stop Signs at the
thst
intersection of 6 Street and 41 Avenue at the next Traffic Commission meeting.

B.REQUEST TO REVIEW TRAFFIC AT THE INTERSECTION OF 50 AVENUE
AND FRONTAGE ROAD/CENTRAL AVENUE
th
Ms Cathy Kehrwald has requested the intersection at 50 Avenue and the Frontage
Road/Central Avenue be reviewed for improvements. Her concern is the additional
traffic generated by the new Jimmy John’s restaurant has made an already dangerous
intersection worse.
This can be a very difficult intersection to navigate when the stores along the frontage
road are busy. There are no simple solutions. Staff will monitor the on-street parking so
“narrowing” of the street doesn’t become an issue. Street striping may also be possible to
aid the flow of traffic through the intersection.
RECOMMENDED MOTION: None.
