Rebecca Loader From: Renee Dougherty Subject: February 2011 Operational Report Date: February 23, 2011 I.Programs a.The Friends of the Library met on February 7 and February 14. They continue to plan the “Love Your Library” project to fund the purchase of new books and DVDs which will be launched on March 1. b.At Home Service delivered twenty items to three patrons this month. c.Five volunteers contributed twenty hours of service. Volunteers read with adult learners, delivered materials to At Home patrons, and sorted and labeled tax forms and instructions. d.The book discussion of John Irving’s Last Night in Twisted River was led by group member Barbara Tantanella. e.I helped to introduce a well-attended session of “Maintain Your Brain” an informational program on brain health sponsored by the Metropolitan Library Services Association (MELSA) and the Alzheimer’s Association. f.The adult reading program, Winter Jackets, continues through the end of February. Forty three persons have returned book reviews as of today. II.Collection Development a.An order for adult and children’s DVDs was placed with Baker and Taylor. Recent popular feature films as well as several non-fiction DVDs in the subject areas of home maintenance, personal fitness, games, and crafting were added. III.Projects a.The large lobby display and slat wall display continue to promote the Winter Jackets adult reading program and feature books recommended by participants. b.I met with the city Safety Committee on February 9 and will be proofreading the first six sections of the revised safety manual before the March meeting. c.Tax forms were displayed by February 1. We continue to add forms, instructions, and schedules as they are received. d.I updated a pathfinder of job search and career planning resources available at the library. e.I began to weed the non-fiction video collection. f.I completed introductory-level training for Microsoft Word and Excel 2010 in advance of the software upgrade at month end. g.I completed a very helpful archived webinar on Unemployment Insurance in Minnesota to assist our patrons navigating the unemployment system. h.I ordered supplies from Office Depot, Demco, Consolidated Plastics, and Voss Lighting. i.Along with children’s librarian Marsha Tubbs, I visited with sales representatives from Random House/Books on Tape.
