I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Schindler installed the ADA compliant telephone and the escutcheon hole in the elevator
on 5/4.
B. Stacey and I met with Steve Sherry, Contract Source representative, on 2/9. The Library
has Buckstaff wooden furniture, and the company is going through bankruptcy. Mr.
Sherry is looking for a contractor to provide comparable pieces to match what is already
owned.
C. Work continues on replacing the departmental copier and the public use printers. Stacey
attended a demonstration 2/16.
D. Orkin performed routine pest inspection 2/24.
E. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 2/11.
F. The windows were cleaned 2/24.
II. COLLECTION
A. A large order of juvenile materials was placed and received.
B. A DVD order was placed.
C. One adult paperback order was placed.
D. Adult Reference weeding is in process.
E. Replacement and added copy orders for books were placed.
F. Electronic book check-outs are extremely popular during the first month of Overdrive.
III. PROGRAMS
A. Three sessions of preschool story time were held during the month. MacPhail’s “Sing,
Play, Learn” program took the place of the last Tuesday story time.
B. Two Movie Matinee films were shown on 2/17 and 2/24. These programs are provided
through Legacy funds.
C. The bulk loan was delivered to the school 2/17.
D. The Library Board met 2/2 with all members present.
E. A Legacy program, “Scat: Singing and Swinging,” was presented 2/5 in the Activity
Room.
F. A MELSA program, “Maintain Your Brain,” was held 2/9 in the Activity Room.
G. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” program was held 2/18.
H. The adult book club met 2/23 to discuss Last night in Twisted River.
I. “Winter Jackets” reading club ended 2/28.
J. Classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library at their regularly-
scheduled times during the week of 2/14-2/18.
K. The Friends met 2/7 with 8 people in attendance. They made preparations for the “Love
Your Library” promotion they are doing in March.
L. The READ Dogs teams were recognized at the City Council meeting of 2/14.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. The Library was moved to the City’s fiber network on 2/21. This created a change in the
static IP used for authentication of the electronic databases.
B. The public printers had issues, and Jesse traded the upstairs one for the downstairs one.
After more adjustment, they appear to be working.
V. STAFF
A. Marsha, Renee, and I met on 3/2 to discuss potential grants for 2011.
B. I participated in a retreat with the ACL Management Team on 3/4 concerning
identification and prioritization of core services.
C. All Reference staff have completed the first MELSA webinar entitled, “Understanding
Unemployment Insurance and Its Impact on Library Customers.”
D. I conducted a work session with the Library Supervisors on 2/5 for review and training
purposes.
E. Staff participated in Office 2010 training throughout the month.
F. Renee attended the City Safety Committee meeting 2/9.

G. Marsha attended the 21 Century Grant meeting 2/16.
H. Renee and I met with Sergeant Matt Markham 2/23 to gather information pertinent to a
safety procedure for the Library staff in dealing with violence in the building.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board did not meet in February.
VII. MISC
A. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 2/7-2/12.
B. I proctored two exams in February. Hennepin County Library and Anoka County Library
have stopped offering proctoring service. If I find that it becomes overwhelming, I will
also discontinue the service.
C. Major Projects:
a. Transitioning from cleaning service to in-house cleaners
b. Preparation of the City version of the 2010 annual report
