I.Programs
a.The Friends of the Library met on January 3. They continue to plan the “Love Your
Library” project to fund new books and DVDs to be launched in March.
b.At Home Service added two new patrons and delivered fifty-seven items to seven patrons
this month.
c.The volunteers in the library contributed twenty-five hours of service. They read with
adult learners, delivered materials to At Home patrons, and shredded outdated files.
d.The book discussion group tackled Nick Reding’s Methland with courage and candor.
II.Collection Development
a.A small order for English language learning CDs was placed with Books on Tape.
III.Projects
a.The adult reading program, Winter Jackets, began on January 10. Readers submitting a
review of a book receive a small prize and are entered into a prize drawing to be held on
March 1. Fifteen persons have returned reviews to date.
b.The library transitioned from Fidelity Building Services to city custodial staff for daily
cleaning. Consequently, I spent a bit of extra time this month establishing communication
with the maintenance supervisor and checking the building each morning.
c.The large lobby display promotes the Winter Jackets adult reading program and the slat
wall features books recommended by Winter Jackets participants.
d.I met with the city Safety Committee and also consulted with library staff to brainstorm
procedures in the event of an armed intruder in the building. Committee members will
compile draft emergency procedures at the February meeting.
e.I have been receiving tax forms and updating staff and patrons on the delay in receipt of
the federal and state forms. Forms will be displayed when all have been received,
hopefully by the first week of February.
f.I prepared documentation for staff to consult when assisting patrons borrowing electronic
books through Overdrive, which was launched on January 20.
g.Supplies were ordered from Office Depot, Demco, Consolidated Plastics, and Voss
Lighting.
