To: M. Rebecca Loader, Library Director
From: Marsha Tubbs, Children’s Librarian
Subject: December 2010 Operational Report
Date: December 29, 2010
I.PROGRAMS
A.One class from ICS visited the library on December 13
B.Jingle Bell Storytime was held on December 14 and attended by 15
children and adults
C.Forty two children enjoyed a Fancy Nancy Celebration on December 29
II.COLLECTION
A.The Young Adult collection and Juvenile Non Fiction collection were
shifted and weeded for space. The addition of YA Non-Fiction materials
to this section had created a crunch for space in the Young Adult section.
Consequently, staff moved the YA Non-Fiction to the main room. Space
is becoming an issue in the Children’s department. The lack of seating
and shelving limitations is reaching a crucial point.
B.Two last minute book orders were place for items needed before the end
of the year.
C.Clean up and reorganization of the magazine storage area and program
supply materials was completed. Inventory lists are being prepared.
D.J Non Fiction was weeded for space.
E.New shelving labels are being prepared for nearly all shelves.
III.PROJECTS
A.Articles for spring Heights Happenings were prepared for submission on
January 7.
B.Tentative schedules for summer programs were established.
C. Research on potential grants for 2011 was completed and materials
prepared for a meeting with the Director in January.
D.I completed the first level of Excel 2000 training through WEB Junction
and am working on Level two.
I participated in the 6-month performance evaluation of
E. Michelle
Wermerskirchen. Very pleased to have her as a staff member.
F.
The Director and I met with a BWI representative to discuss the possible option
of using their service. We are currently considering moving our standing order
for paperbacks to BWI.
IV.GRANTS & MEETINGS
st
A.I attended a 21 Century Grant meeting on December 16 and was
impressed by the year end report delivered by the representative from the
Wilder Foundation. The report showed that statistically children
st
participating in 21 Century programs were advancing in their academic
courses as well especially in reading and math.
B.I attended a Heighten the Arts committee meeting on December 14. The
WEB site for the organization was discussed. The design work is
complete but the site is not “live” and being held up awaiting decisions
within the district.
C.I attended a summer reading evaluation meeting along with other
Children’s Librarians from Anoka County. Changes have been made to
the program: 1. Macy’s will no longer be supporting the program and a
search is underway for new corporate sponsor. 2. MELSA will no longer
be participating in the national program and is branching out to produce a
reading program 3. An umbrella theme has been selected to encompass all
summer reading programs. Future MELSA programs will be titled
“Bookawocky”
V.STAFF
A.Children’s department staff has been busy closing up year-end files,
reorganizing the book collection and storage areas, placing final orders for
materials and preparing for the 2011 program seasons. Cristy Tombarge
prepared publicity materials for upcoming programs. Rachel Meyers,
library page, has been creating flannel boards for the Storytime materials
collection.
