I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A.Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 12/17.
B.Comcast came out 12/2 to look at the cable modulator in preparation for the new equipment
to be installed next month.
C.Public Works replaced the exterior front light bulbs 12/2. The spotlight over the front door
required a repair by Heights Electric.
D.Tim Barnes, Maintenance Services Supervisor, toured the building 12/2 with an insurance
inspector.
E.A mouse was spotted in my office 12/2. A mouse sighting on 12/4 was also reported. After
two more mouse sightings, Orkin came out to prevent any more visitations.
F.The Library lost telephone service 12/6 for approximately 15 minutes.
G.Public Works cleared the emergency door entrances 12/17.
H.The carpeting in the Boardroom was replaced 12/27.
I.NSI/Horwitz performed winter maintenance on the HVAC system 12/28.
II. COLLECTION
A.Year-end book, DVD, and CD orders were all placed and received.
B.Year-end book fund accounting is current.
C.Adult weeding is complete through 399. I will be working on reference weeding in January.
D.The Pages completed cleaning the adult CD collection. They have done an excellent job of
making the collection look good.
III. PROGRAMS
A.The Library Board met 12/1 with six members and two staff in attendance. The Board
expressed their appreciation to Bruce Kelzenberg for his excellent service as the City
Council liaison over the past eight years.
B.The Friends of the Library met 12/6 with nine members present.
C.Holiday Storytime was held 12/14.
D.The Friends collected 145 books through Project Bookshelf. These items were distributed
through the local Southern Anoka Community Assistance (SACA) food shelf.
E.One class from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library during the week of 12/13.
F.A “Fancy Nancy” program was held 12/29.
IV.TECHNOLOGY
A.The motherboard of Ch1 had to be replaced 12/13. As this is one of the new Gates PC’s,
replacement was covered by the warranty.
B.Qwest installed a new analog line to the telephone located in the elevator 12/16.
C.The Library staff now has an iPad to use for “roaming reference” and to demonstrate e-
books on Overdrive. Thanks to Jesse Hauf for setting it up for us to use.
V.STAFF
A.Kelly and I were pleased to serve on the Employee of the Year Selection Committee this
year. The award is granted by employees to their peers and recognizes outstanding service. I
am delighted to announce that Patty Muscovitz, City Clerk and Secretary to the City
Council, has been selected as the 2011 Employee of the Year. Patty is a real team player and
an avid reader, who supports the Library in many endeavors. Kudos!
B.Marsha and I met with a representative from BWI, a book distributor, about services
available from them.
C.I attended a meeting of the City’s Image Committee 12/6. Members are looking at ways to
update and to utilize the City’s website to its best advantage in order to positively promote
the City.
D.For the first time since I have been employed by the City, I was interviewed by the Auditor
on 12/14 in regards to City finances and financial practices.
E.Marsha attended a Heighten the Arts meeting 12/14.

Marsha attended a 21 Century Grant meeting 12/16.
F.Marsha attended the Summer Reading Club wrap-up meeting 12/16 at Northtown.
G.Rene attended a City Safety Committee meeting 12/16.
H.Renee participated in an Overdrive webinar 12/22.
I.Staff attended the annual City Holiday Luncheon 12/7, and we all enjoyed a delicious meal.
A silent auction was held to benefit Public Works employee, Karl Pope. The Library staff
must have been sitting at the lucky table, as several of us won door prizes. Thanks to all the
people who made the event possible.
J.Michelle Wermerskirchen had her six-months performance review during the month.
VI. FOUNDATION
A.The Foundation sponsored a fundraiser featuring the movie, “Miracle on34th Street” on
12/5. The First Four provided music before the 1:30 p.m. showing at the Heights Theatre.
The Foundation Board was very pleased with the response by the attendees. Thanks to
everyone for their support.
B.Seven members of the Foundation Board met on 12/8 to evaluate the fundraiser and to go
over year-end donations.
VII. MISC
A.Granny’s Closet placed a collection box in the Library for the month of December.
B.The Library’s 2011 budget was approved at the 12/13 City Council meeting.
