The Friends of the Library met on November 1. They will coordinate collection of book donations for children and teens for Project Bookshelf during November and early December. They visited the Stillwater Library and met with a member of its Friends group on November 17 to get ideas for new service projects. They agreed to a solicit donations to replace classic children’s and adult books and videos as part of a “Love Your Library” project in February/March 2011. b. At Home Service provided 46 items to five patrons this month. c. Volunteers provided fifteen hours of service to the library – two volunteers with the “Buddy Up and Read” program and three volunteers delivering items to “At Home” patrons. d. The book group read and discussed Muriel Barbery’s The Elegance of the Hedgehog. II. Collection a. A large DVD order was placed with Baker and Taylor this month. Many children’s and non-fiction videos were added. b. A final order for music CDs was placed with Baker and Taylor. III. Projects a. Multiple order were placed this month – to Minitex for security system supplies; to Demco for general library supplies; to Consolidated Plastics for building supplies; and to Office Depot for office supplies. b. I conducted a library tour and orientation to the catalog for a class from the Adult Basic Education Center. c. I visited two classes, entry-level and intermediate, for English language learners at the Columbia Heights location of the Metro North Adult Basic Education Center. d. I attended GroupWise training for city employees. e. I met with a foster care and adoption recruiter from Anoka County Social Services to plan for a library display in May 2011. f. The displays in the library this month were “A library card is the smartest card in your wallet” in the lobby; fiction and non-fiction books and DVDs on homelessness on the slat wall, and a display provided by Heading Home Anoka in the adult reading room.
