Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: September operational report DATE: September 30, 2010 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. The windows were washed 9/9. B. The foundation cracks around the western section of the building were caulked 9/10. C. NSI/Horwitz performed preventive maintenance on the HVAC system the week of 9/13. The central air conditioning unit leaked again so that the ceiling tile nearest to the unit became saturated with water. This unit is scheduled to be replaced. D. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 9/17. E. The southwest emergency door was replaced 9/23. F. The building was appraised for insurance renewal purposes 9/24. II. COLLECTION A. Six hardcover and two paperback orders were placed during the month. B. Additional copies of best-sellers and adult replacements were ordered. C. Weeding for the month was not completed. III. PROGRAMS A. Weekly pre-school story time started 9/21. B. The Library Board did not meet in September. C. Marsha attended an open house at Highland Elementary 9/2. D. Marsha attended an open house at the Family Center 9/9. E. The Friends of the Library met 9/13 with 7 members present. F. Classes from Immaculate Conception School started their monthly scheduled visits the week of 9/20. G. Baby Read/Baby Grow story time started 9/20 and was held weekly on Mondays during the month. H. The fall session of Read Dogs started 9/20. This program continues to be very popular. I. Marsha attended an open house at North Park Elementary on 9/21. J. Fall Film Festival was held 9/23 and 9/30. K. Adult Book Club discussed In the dark on 9/29. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. The network has experienced many ups and downs during the month. I am hopeful that once all the “bugs” are worked out after the Microsoft migration, the system will return to its former dependable nature. B. The City is in the process of looking at new copiers. Stacey attended two demonstrations at Coordinated Business Systems and Xerox. The Library will be acquiring a departmental copier and a print manager/copier for the public. C. The City’s project of migrating to a Microsoft environment started the week of 9/12. It was a very complex project and encountered various impediments on the way to completion. V. STAFF A. Fall schedule for part-time employees started the week of 9/6. st B. Marsha attended a 21 Century Grant meeting 9/22. C. I met with the new Maintenance Supervisor, Tim Barnes, on 9/30 to go over Library maintenance contracts and issues. Also attending with Keith Windschitl and Bill Elrite. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 9/22. Discussion centered on the Spaghetti Dinner, which was held 9/15 and preparations for the December fundraiser at the Heights Theatre. VII. MISC A. Delivery switched to four times per week starting 9/13. Patrons are delighted that four-day delivery service has survived the budget cut-backs. B. Saturday hours changed to 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 9/11. C. Major projects: a. 2011 proposed budget b. Detail budget book c.
