The Friends of the Library are on hiatus for the summer. The group will meet on September 13. Three Friends continue to volunteer with the Buddy Up and Read program. b. At Home Service selected and delivered fifty-six items to five patrons during August. c. Three volunteers met for a total of eight hours with their reading buddies in the ‘Buddy Up and Read’ program. Four volunteers spent eight hours delivering materials to At Home Service patrons. d. The book discussion group met on August 25 to discuss Wildflower by Michael Seal. The participants also chose the titles they will read in the coming year. e. Two classes, a morning class with seventeen students and an evening class with ten, from the Metro North Adult Basic Education Center visited the library for a tour, to apply for library cards, and to learn how to use the catalog to find materials in the library. II. Collection a. Thirty-two DVDs were ordered from Baker and Taylor this month. Some newer feature films as well as classic movies from the American Film Institute’s Top 100 list were added to the collection. b. Forty-five popular music CDs were purchased. III. Projects a. A new slat wall display of educational books and videos under the title “Back to School” was installed. We continue to plan and produce a major display, ‘A library card is the smartest card in your wallet,’ to publicize the benefits of a library card, to be installed soon. b. The booksale cart is kept fresh with donated paperback and children’s books and VHS tapes withdrawn from the collection. c. One order for building maintenance supplies was placed with Office Depot. d. I attended Anoka County Library staff day as well as fire extinguisher training provided by the Columbia Heights Fire Department.
