Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: July operational report DATE: July 31, 2010 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 7/16. B. A service call had to be placed for the central rooftop air conditioning unit 7/2. The unit is the oldest in the building and needs to be replaced. NSI/Horwitz was able to get the unit to work, but the leak is not repairable. C. Preparations for replacing the public copier and printer and the departmental copier began. Stacey and I will be representing the Library on this cross-departmental project. We attended an informational meeting on 7/12 and met with a copier representative 7/27. D. The Library passed the annual inspection by the Fire Department 7/21. E. The blinds were cleaned and repaired during the month. F. The windows were cleaned 7/23. G. The replacement of the Library’s parking lot started 7/28. The project will take about two weeks. II. COLLECTION A. Multiple book orders were submitted during the month. B. DVD’s and CD’s were ordered and received. C. Adds and replacements were ordered for the adult collection. D. I worked on further weeding of the videocassette collection. Adult nonfiction weeding is complete through 299.514. Adult fiction is weeded through R. E. The Pages are working on mending the periodicals. New labels will be made for the file boxes when the mending is complete, and they are ready to shift. III. PROGRAMS A. The Friends did not meet in July. B. The Library Board met 7/7 with four members and two staff in attendance. C. DURT (Did U Read This) met four times during the month. D. Stacey participated in a cable shoot 7/28. E. The Adult Book Club discussed Shanghai girls 7/28. F. A session of MacPhail’s “Sing, Play, Learn” was held on 7/28. G. Staff presented three sessions of preschool storytime in July. H. Mike Bullock presented a comic book workshop on 7/9 and 7/12. I. Read Dogs continued with the Monday sessions each week. J. Schoolhouse Chess met 7/22. K. Four Wacky Wednesdays were held during the month: Underwater Adventures (7/7), Magical Mia (7/14), Rad Zoo (7/21), and Star Michaelina (7/28). L. The Legacy program featuring “Violin Duos” was held at COH 7/31. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. Problems with the Scala equipment, which runs the Library’s cable channel, continue. When the City’s new contract is settled with Comcast, this equipment will be replaced. V. STAFF A. Page training ended 7/21. Michelle will join the regular staff rotation in the fall schedule. B. Stacey and Kelly attended Laserfiche 8 training 7/22. C. I attended the ACL Public Service meeting 7/29 at the Crooked Lake Library. D. I attended one ACL Management Team meeting during the month of July. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board did not meet in July. VII. MISC A. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 7/12-7/17. B. Major projects: a. Proposed 2011 budget hearing with Finance Director and City Manager b. Part-time Supervisor schedule for Fall c. Preparation for Unique Management d.
