I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 5/14.
B. Summit completed the annual test of the sprinkler system 5/6.
C. The central air conditioning unit leaked during the rainstorm 5/11. This unit is scheduled for
replacement.
D. The piano was tuned 5/18 in anticipation of the program on 6/5 as part of the Live at the
Library events.
E. The mats, blinds, and carpeting were cleaned during the month.
F. Heights Electric was here 5/28 to check the emergency door alarms, the security lights, and
the emergency lights.
G. The fire extinguishers were serviced 5/14.
H. The windows were cleaned 5/25.
II. COLLECTION
A. One adult paperback orders was placed.
B. Orders for CD’s and DVD’s were placed and received.
C. I weeded the videocassettes heavily.
D. The adult audio cassettes are all withdrawn.
E. I completed weeding Adult Fiction up through Q. Mystery, Science Fiction, and Western
R’s are also complete. Fiction R’s are started.
F. Adult CD weeding is complete.
G. A large order of updated editions and replacements was placed and received.
H. Two sections of the 700’s were targeted for collection development: 700-745 and 746-789.
New titles were ordered and received in May.
III. PROGRAMS
A. The Library Board met 5/5 with seven in attendance.
B. Special field trips for Columbia Heights Pre-school classes were held 5/12.
C. The Friends met 5/3 with 10 members present.
D. Marsha attended a Summer Reading Program meeting at the County 5/5.
E. The last Baby Read/Baby Grow storytime was held 5/5.
F. Two Valley View kindergarten classes visited the Library 5/26.
G. Read Dogs continued through 5/5.
H. National Children’s Book Week was celebrated 5/10-5/15.
I. Captain Curly presented a program in the Activity Room 5/10.
J. MacPhail presented a “Sing, Play, Learn” workshop 5/18.
K. 5/22 was the last Saturday delivery until after Labor Day. Delivery will remain on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday for the summer.
L. The adult book group discussed Tallgrass at the meeting 5/26.
M. The classes from ICS and Global Academy visited the Library during their regularly-
scheduled times the week of 5/10.
N. Marsha attended the Ice Cream Social at Highland Elementary 5/20.
O. Stacey participated in the “Heights Calendar Show” for cable 5/26.
P. Marsha met with the Volunteens 5/27 for orientation for the summer season.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. The wi-fi main controller failed 5/20 and had to be replaced.
B. The Library’s firewall was updated 5/27.
C. The Buckstaff table was not delivered on time to have the Gates computers installed in May.
It is due to be delivered 6/2.
V. STAFF
A. Lauren, Rachel, and Renee Rewitzer celebrated their second year anniversaries as Pages.
B. I attended three Management Team meetings at the County in May.

C. Marsha attended a 21 Century Grant meeting 5/26.
D. Renee Dougherty attended a meeting of the City Safety Committee 5/25.
E. Stacey cross-trained Ramon and Kelly in how to attach items to the database 5/11.
F. I met with the Pages 5/18 to negotiate summer schedule.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board did not meet in May.
B. The Women of Today held a used book sale at Murzyn Hall 5/15 to raise funds for their
matching grant that will be donated to the Foundation.
C. A fundraiser was held over the week-end of Mother’s Day at Linders with 15% of the total
pre-tax purchase of people presenting a printed coupon being donated to the Foundation.
VII. MISC
A. A MELSA crossover survey was conducted the week of 5/3.
B. Special projects:

b. Performance reviews
c. Part-time summer schedules
d. 2011 budget
