Subject: April 2010 Operational Report

I. PROGRAMS
A. Three sessions of Preschool Storytime were held in April. One session was
cancelled due to my being ill. Average attendance has been 24-28 children and
10-12 adults.
B. Teens from the after school program “Windsock” visited the library on 4/27 and
received demonstrations on the use of the WEB catalog and options of interest
available.
C. Eight sessions of the R.E.A.D. dog program were held. We have 3 dogs and one
cat (Spooner) on Monday evening and one dog on Wednesday evenings.
D. The after school program “ENCORE” met four times on Friday afternoons.
E. Bulk loan to local school classrooms was picked up on 4/29.
F. Classes from ICS and Global academy visited the library between 4/12 and 4/16.
G. Four sessions of Baby Read Baby Grow (storytime for infant up to age 24
months) were held.
H. National Library Week was celebrated 4/12-4/16. We thanked the community “a
mint” for their support and members of the community told the staff of the wide
variety of ways the library helped them thrive.
II. COLLECTION
A. Orders were placed for replacement titles in the paperback collection
B. Two new book orders were sent to Baker and Taylor
C. A publisher direct order was placed to ABDO for Dora the explorer and Diego
titles
D. Weeding continues in the Easy nonfiction, J Fiction and J Non fiction areas. The
JCD782.28 - 782.281723 Ch, Audio Book 230-319, Audio Book PQ And CDs are
complete.
III. PROJECTS
A. Staff is busy preparing for the summer reading programs and the variety of
activities that will accompany this summers celebration of reading.
B. Teen Volunteers are being recruited for the 2010 Summer season.
C. American Girl is back. We will be celebrating the life and times of Kaya, a
Native American girl, on August 11 from 2-4.
D. Comic Book Artist Mike Bullock will present a two-day writing and illustrating
workshop on July 9 and 12.
IV. GRANTS
A. Applications for grants from Target and Wal-Mart were placed this month.
B. Status report on the Dollar General Grant is due the first week in May.

C. 21 Century programming will begin in June. This grant is supplementing the
summer reading programs and providing additional School’s out programs during
the summer months.
V. STAFF
A. I attended a HA (Heighten the Arts) meeting on 4/20.
B. Kelly Olson sent and received some large adult book orders, prepared a one page
annual report for distribution to the community and prepared the Applaud issue
for May.
C. Cristy Tombarge prepared bulletin boards and displays for National Library
Week, prepared bulletin board for national Library Week, updated the R.E.A.D.
dog archive folder and statistics for District 13, updated the book order files,
prepared flyers for various programs and updated the WEB information for
stroytime.
