I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. The windows were cleaned 4/19.
B. Public Works performed many maintenance projects around the building during the month.
Staff appreciates their dependability and ability to fix so many types of broken items.
C. NSI/Horwitz performed quarterly maintenance on the HVAC system, removed the tarp from
the air conditioning unit, and adjusted the clocks and settings on the thermostats on 4/8.
D. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floor 4/16.
E. Retrofit Companies came out 4/1 to repair several light fixtures.
F. I met with Public Works Director Kevin Hansen 4/23 to start the process to replace the
Library’s boiler and rooftop air conditioning units.
II. COLLECTION
A. Weekly orders were placed for items with requests.
B. Weekly orders were placed for items from current selection tools.
C. One adult paperback order was placed.
D. DVD and cd orders were placed.
E. Collection development areas: 640-699.
F. Weeding of the adult fiction was completed through the letter N. Mystery P, Science Fiction
P, and Western P was also completed.
III. PROGRAMS
A. The Friends met 4/5 at the Dragon House Café with 9 members present. I presented the wish
list, and they voted to purchase a set of browsing baskets, four storage boxes, and two safety
step stools. They will also make a donation to purchase adult and juvenile DVD’s and CD’s
for the circulating collection.
B. The Library Board met 4/7 with 8 people in attendance.
C. The Friends prepared a submission to Campbell’s Labels for Education on 4/13. They
qualified to double their points through a special bonus program.
D. Eight sessions of Kids Read/Dogs Listen were held during the month. The addition of
Spooner the cat to the line-up added more opportunities for kids to participate in the
program.
E. Four sessions of Encore, sponsored by Independent School District #13, were held during
the month.
F. National Library Week was celebrated 4/12-17 with the theme “Helping Communities
Thrive.”
G. Windsock came to the Library for a special program 4/27.
H. The bulk loan for the schools was picked up 4/29.
I. Three sessions of Baby Read/Baby Grow Storytime were held during the month. Marsha is
doing this program in cooperation with ECFE personnel.
J. “Buddy Up With a Friend,” sponsored by the Friends and the Library, gained another
participant in April. People who want to practice reading can sign up for the program at the
Library.
K. Tax season ended quietly, with the exception of someone stealing the Minnesota master
forms book. Adequate forms and instructions were available for the public. As more people
are e-filing, the program is becoming calmer and easier to manage.
L. Ramon and Stacey provided the display for the case at City Hall for the month of April.
M. The adult book group discussed The lottery at their meeting on 4/28.
N. Students from ICS and Global Academy visited the Library during their regularly-scheduled
times 4/12-4/16.
O. Three sessions of preschool storytime were held 4/13, 4/20, and 4/27.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. All hardware purchased with the Gates Grant has been received, and the IS Department has
been setting up the machines with software, security, and CybraryN. The goal is to be ready
to test the new machines the last week in April. The Library’s matching portion for this
grant has been raised from proceeds from the book sale cart. Staff is very excited about
having new machines for the public to use.
V. STAFF
A. Marsha attended a HA meeting 4/20.
B. 4/9 was Elaine Dietz-Mamaril’s last day as the Interim Adult Services Librarian. Elaine has
been working 25 hours per week for the past year. Elaine will return to working part-time as
a Library Supervisor.
C. Renee Dougherty started as the new Adult Services Librarian on 4/12. Renee was
introduced to the City Council at their meeting of 4/26.
D. Renee attended her first meeting as the Library’s representative to the City’s Safety
Committee 4/22.
E. I attended the Public Service meeting at Johnsville 4/29.
F. Stacey participated in a cable shoot on 4/28.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board met 4/14 with 7 members present. Members discussed the fundraiser
being sponsored through Linders on May 7-10. The Foundation will receive 15% of all pre-
tax sales made on those dates. Thanks to staff member, Alison Marzolf, for bringing this
opportunity to the attention of the Board.
VII. MISC
A. The Library participated in the national tornado drill on 4/22 as part of Severe Weather
Awareness Week. 17 people participated at 1:45 p.m.
B. On 4/22 I attended an excellent training session on “Learning to Work Together” at the
Anoka County Courthouse.
C. I completed the Library’s Continuity of Operations Plan for submission to the City.
D. I was very proud to have four Library Pages recognized by the City Council for their years of
service through a proclamation issued in their honor at the City Council meeting of 4/26.
Alicia Cermak, Regina Jesse, Dan Kleinfehn, and Nick Olberding have each worked nine
years at the Library. Kudos!
E. I would like to recognize the excellent job my staff does the whole year round. In these times
of “doing more with less,” everyone is stepping up to the plate to do the work necessary to
provide excellent service to the patrons. 4/21 is Administrative Professionals Day, but I
would like to extend the recognition to everyone who works for the Library. Kudos to you
all!
